Gosh, this is kinda rough...because I didn't even finish this one. I went into the book expecting a really great message - the title is, after all, Jesus > Religion, and the subtitle is "Why He Is So Much Better Than Trying Harder, Doing More, and Being Good Enough." Sounds like really good stuff, am I right? But reading it, it made me feel like I *did* need to try harder, do more, and be better to be "good enough." So, I dunno. There's a fine line between really being under grace and following Jesus simply by faith, and being under "grace" but always doing works to measure up. That fine line was blurred and very hard to find in Jesus > Religion, but it felt like it leaned more towards the latter part of that sentence. I feel sorta bad giving it this kind of review, but I want to be honest, and honestly? I wasn't really getting anything that great out of this. *sigh*

Sarah Grace Grzy I hate those books where you have such high expectations, and they end up being completely terrible. :{

Gosh, I knowww! It's disappointing when it happens!! :P

Soleil It's been a while since Iast read it, but I do get that. With everything you always have to take everything in and consider first. Like the saying where you take it all with a grain of salt. He makes some really good points in the book, but it's easy for some of the stuff to sound like he's talking down on the church or saying everything is ok. In the end I think he's just trying to open people's closed minded thinking- especially for those who were raised in Christian homes and have a very up tight way of doing things, and saying "hey, everything that isn't alright for you conscious wise, doesn't mean it's a sin for everyone else, and that you can judge them for that" kinda thing.

The new book he and his wife just wrote (Love That Lasts) was really good, even for singles, as it points to ways to help further friendships and relationships. (I don't know if you read Spoken For my Alyssa Bethke and Robin Jones Gunn, but that is a good read for young women)

Hey, Sol!! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. XP Good thoughts! I understand that too - helping people be open-minded is great, and I can see how this book would do that... I didn't get in far enough to give a whole opinion, though, but from what I read I didn't get a good feeling. Maybe it just wasn't for me? I dunno.

Both of those sound good! Thanks for the recommendations! :D
