bookshelves: 2017, urban-fantasy

This urban fantasy is for those who like to read about sorting mail, training wolf puppies, staff meetings and snow. Evidently, I do, but to a degree.

Interesting mythology, but WAY too much attention to unnecessary minutiae. I don't need to know whose socks got wet in the snow, who is minding the book store or café when the main employee needs to step outside for yet another meeting, and how many steps are there between the front door and the back door of the sorting room or between buildings. It's too much when repeated 20 times in a book. All logistics and meetings in this story are super boring. And no romance. Yet.

Nidofito LOL! So true!

Dryad I thought this book was cute, but grew tired of how everyone's reason for letting her stick around is that she delivers the mail on time.

Beachesnbooks Lol very true. I read it when I was stressed out during school and found all of the minutiae/snow/mail sorting really relaxing, but it's definitely not an exciting book and not at all typical UF. Also, the series really goes downhill from this book in my opinion, although I keep reading them for relaxing reads, lol.

Tatiana I will listen to the second one I think. There are many things I liked about it.

Catie, I did 1.25 all the way:)

Dichotomy Girl Hmmm...I loved this book, and I guess I found that stuff interesting, from a perspective of watching Meg learn how to function in the outside world. I also like my books with no or slow burn romance, so this one hit the right buttons for me.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that the series "goes downhill", but I would say that it changes a lot as it focuses less on Meg/The Courtyard, and more on the interaction between the species' and therefore becomes a bit more political / sociological in nature, which I agree wouldn't be for everyone.

However, I've not listened to the audiobook. When I do listen to audiobooks, I listen at 1.6x-2x and drive my husband and daughter crazy. (The funniest time was when I was listening to Jane Austen's Emma, at 2x, which was fine, except when Miss Bates spoke and then it was INSANE, which I found funny, but which they thought extremely annoying.)

Tatiana 1.25 seems to be the speed for me. I can't handle 1.5. Can't even imagine doing 2@.@
