Hyperion gets a lot of love but I seldom see any mention of this amazing book. It is very different from Hyperion but that is not unusual for Simmons as he is a very versatile writer. Carrion Comfort is sf/horror of the highest calibre, something Stephen King may write when he is on top form (but with better prose). This book is about people with mind control abilities of different strengths. A lot of riveting plot is generated from this simple premise. I won't go onto any details, I'll just recommend that you do not miss this book even if you don't normally read horror.

Mark Tallen I'm at chapter 7. This is a really great book. In your review you mentioned the prose...I agree, it is brilliant. I haven't read Hyperion yet but I have read three other Simmons novels...Drood, Song Of Kali and The Abominable. Looking forward to reading Hyperion but I'm enjoying Carrion Comfort and I have a long way to go. It is very horrific but gripping.

I haven't read the three titles you mentioned, are they all good? Cheers!

Mark Tallen Drood I thought was superb and I enjoyed the Song of kali. The Abominable I enjoyed but not as much as the other two.

Nageen I love Hyperion its my top fav and didnt care for Ilium. Found Kalis Song to be almost racist. So its a complicated relationship with Simmons. So, based on this, is this book great, good or meh?

I love it, but it is of the horror genre so if you are more into sci-fi (like Hyperion) but not horror it may not be for you. It also contains sexually explicit scenes.

Ohni absolutely love horror. Imma gonna pick this up.

Christoffer Ladstein I will start this one now. Have been aware of it for years though...
Strongly recommend The Terror. Simmons got the most dazzling writingstyle, slowly entangling you in his wordy web, so I will expect much from this one. The Hyperion books are naturally among my favs!
