Brilliant author.
Brillianty written.
Brilliant idea.

Except...

I didn't like it.
I didn't like the heroine. Couldn't relate to her.
I didn't the hero.
I didn't like the story. Implausible and kind of revolting.

I normally like fucked up, unpredictable stories. The darker and more twisted the better.
This one didn't resonate with me.
Sorry.
And watch out for triggers. (view spoiler)

Julie Guay-de la ronde A 1? I'm curious. This author usually is so good. Now I'm not sure whether I'll give it a go. I already wasn't sure about the synopsis.

I agree, her writing skills are amazing. But I never fully connect with her stories...
I think you should give it a chance. Don't worry, I'm the only one who didn't like it.

Wendys Wycked Words Ohh Bummer sweets bope the next will be better for you ;) xoxo

Astrid - The Bookish Sweet Tooth Ah sorry it didn't work for you, Anna! <3

Nazanin Great honest review, babe! Sorry for the miss though! Onto the next! xoxo

Jewel Totally agree. I love dark stories, but this story to me was predictable, and the characters were thin as paper. Honestly, the male lead had such traumatic things happen to him, I can’t imagine him immediately jumping into a relationship with a girl he just met. I would have believed it more if they had more of a romantic connection but... nope. Great review!

Yes! That was my problem as well. Unrealistic story and lack of real emotions between them...

Heather I totally agree with you. I didn't necessarily hate it but it wasn't good. There wasn't much depth to the characters and the story was so predictable to anyone who reads mystery/thrillers. It wasn't unique in any way.

 A. Thanks, Heather. Glad you agree :)

Jessica's Totally Over The Top Book Obsession Great review sweetie :)

message 26: by Ana (new) - rated it 1 star

Ana Buenrostro Agree 100% !!!

Andrea I read 30% and just felt sick. Every one in this story was a little off. No one predictable, no one a really driving desire to see where they would go. At that point the book only seemed like it could get worse, so I quit. Aside from the sweet little boy there was nothing to like about this book. Like who cares about the lost pathetic people? Creepy sickness.

Well said, Andrea

Nicole I used to love her books but now... I don’t think I want to read more of her work.

Nicole Damn just checked the avg raring o.O why didn’t you like it exactly? Don’t mind spoilers.

Julia I agree with Nicole.. Her books are becoming more and more difficult to stomach. I miss November or Maybe Someday... complex but not so f-ed up.

Exactly! What happened to this wonderful author? It's not just this book... :(

Erin Love the review! And thanks for the trigger warning - that’s definitely not something I want to read about.
I’m with Nicole and Julia, I’m done with her work. The last 2 were so disappointing, and after reading the reviews for this one, I’m not sorry to say that I’m giving it a miss.

I totally agree with you. Her earlier books are so much better. Thanks, Erin :)

Jennifer Oh yes, the triggers. I put them in my review as well. Very disturbing.

Nikki ღ Navareus Eeek! Sorry for the miss, Hon!! Hope your next read will be an awesome one!! xx

Kimberly If you think it was brilliantly written, as well as a great plot idea...you really can't give it a one star just because you didn't "like" the main characters. Not every character comes down to a "hero" or "villian" category, by the way. Sounds like you came in with the wrong expectations based upon the author's previous work, perhaps?

 A. Kimberly wrote: "If you think it was brilliantly written, as well as a great plot idea...you really can't give it a one star just because you didn't "like" the main characters. Not every character comes down to a "..."

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough in my review: I did NOT like this book at all, hence 1 star.

I hated the characters and It was very disturbing for me. Since GR doesn't ask from us to rate a book based on its literary value but on our enjoyment of the book, I think I can rate it however I want.

CoHo is one of my favorite authors, I didn't want to be unfair and give other readers the impression this book is badly written so I tried to write a negative review as fairly as possible pointing out its values.

Lily (Night Owl Book Cafe) Yes she can, why can't she? I didn't know we only had the rate the book based on the writing alone. She can really like the other and not like the book. I'm glad she wasn't biased.

message 44: by Mary (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mary Elizabeth I too hated the characters. I see we’re in the minority here though.

 A. Mary wrote: "I too hated the characters. I see we’re in the minority here though."

Glad I'm not the only one :)
Usually I can see why people love the book I hate but I really can't understand how they related to the characters...

message 46: by Jane (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jane Totally agree, I felt the same way. Not sure why it's getting so many incredible reviews.

 A. Jane wrote: "Totally agree, I felt the same way. Not sure why it's getting so many incredible reviews."

Not sure either. I guess they love it because it's different from other books. Still, I can't understand how they can love it so much...

message 48: by Tina (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tina Signorelli There were too many red herrings. And after reading reviews I expected a better, more clever twist.

Tiara Wow 1 star because of the character dislike but everything else was brilliant??????

message 50: by Jessica (new) - added it

Jessica It was utterly ridiculous and implausible.
