it was ok

I’m a long time fan of Ms Kirino and I’m sad to say that this book falls short compared to the others.

Her unique style is there, the multilayered points of view, alternating the protagonist’s to the others through letters, pieces of novels, interviews which to me is the most fascinating part of this novel.

I also believe Ms Kirino revealed part of herself through the protagonist (a well known middle aged writer who is writing her next novel). Her ideas on how to write a book, the publishing world, the role of the readers were all very interesting. (Especially how she does not like when fans criticize her work!) :)

However, the plot and characters lack something and are not very well developed. In some parts it feels like she just did not know how to continue and wrote the first thing that came to mind.

All in all I feel it’s a good first draft. But I also think that maybe, writing it like this was was her intention all along. art imitates life and the incomplete and lacking plot mirrors what is described in the novel.
