Started this some time last year, but needed to take a break because I wasn’t feeling it. Returned to it the other day and blew through it. Turns out the stories in the second half were where it’s at.

The collection isn’t cohesive when it comes to themes, it feels more like a greatest hits. Actually, I don’t think that’s accurate. It felt more like it was all a showcase of every story Smith had ever written. Meaning that I think she would’ve been forgiven if she left some of these entries on the cutting room floor.

I did get on with several of the back half stories (some were astounding), but I gotta be honest, a lot of stories in this collection just weren’t hitting. But it’s Zadie, so you know it’ll still gonna be worth it.
