I checked 3x to see if there was something wrong with my Kindle copy, only to find out that leaving out quotation marks was intentional. Absolutely unforgivable.

Book Clubbed lol shooting from the hip, marta.

Rochelle ✿ Oh yeah, I heard about that... I like it when authors think outside the box, but I'm really not sure about intentional grammatical errors ;)

I wouldn't have it any other way hahah

I'm all for creativity and ingenuity with books as well. I found Illuminae to be great example of that. However omitting quotation marks is inexcusable in my option, and on top of that everything else about this book is terrible too hahahah

Stack ♡ I really couldn’t get past the decision to use no quotation marks. I felt like I had no idea what was going on, rereading bits like, oh, was that part of the dialogue? Or did they stop talking?

AGREED. I read Conversations with Friends and it was the same thing and I also gave it 1 star !! It bothered me sooooo much and it was so confusing when the dialogue started and when it was just plot

adam girl it ain't that deep

YEAH IKR!! the book was horrible anyways so the purposeful grammatical errors really just infuriated me more lol. it just seemed very "not like other girls" and not in the cute quirky way she thinks it is

Pooja Peravali I hate when authors do that!

message 14: by Karen (new) - added it

Karen I’m always so eager to look at the loner in a sea of 4 and 5 star reviews. I’m still smarting that I didn’t find one that saved me from 444 pages of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, a book I wanted to quit on page 29, decided it must be me and continued on. A book I have so many objections to I still can’t form them all cogently to write a persuasive review. So, as I read the reviews about Normal People I had that “this isn’t me” growing and I just peeked to see if you had read Addie, and, well, when I saw your lack of stars I’m skipping this one! Thanks, Marta! 📚

message 15: by Maniakimon (new)

Maniakimon i never stoped reading a book so fast but it was way too confusing what was going on evan if the lenguage was simple. two pages in and decided not worth the headace to figure when someone is talking and when they think and who are all these people are. sorry but this book felt like it was written by a first grade student . like a fanfiction wow. so overrated

message 16: by Andrea (new) - added it

Andrea Jent Stopped at page one. Life is too short for this BS.

message 17: by vivi (new) - rated it 1 star

vivi Completely agree! I hated the writIng style so much!

Lovelene Pearl Omg same!!!! I thought i was reading the wrong book

marta the book slayer Pooja wrote: "I hate when authors do that!"

Anytime Karen! It's always a great feeling when we find a fellow reviewer that shares similar opinions that can save us form the read that we surely won't enjoy.

overrated is the perfect word to describe this

marta the book slayer Andrea wrote: "Stopped at page one. Life is too short for this BS."

that's the right attitude

preaching to the choir!

unfortunately, no :P

message 26: by Sierra•Rae (new) - added it

Sierra•Rae I’m currently reading it, only 20 pages in and I know this will bother me to no end throughout the book debating on putting it down 🫤

message 27: by Laura (new) - added it

Laura I tried to finish it, but I couldn't even read half of this. It was incredibly boring and the lack of punctuation did it for me. DNF'd at maybe 30%

Sofia B marta the book slayer wrote: "kath wrote: "AGREED. I read Conversations with Friends and it was the same thing and I also gave it 1 star !! It bothered me sooooo much and it was so confusing when the dialogue started and when i..."

she also did it in beautiful world where are you

imo the show was more tolerable haha

it's certainly her MO

Nienke Valster If the book would have had any storyline at all I could have been semi okay with it, but unfortunately quotation marks wasn't the only thing this abomination was lacking...

message 33: by Carly (new) - rated it 1 star

Carly I did the same with her other book. Had to check a physical copy to make sure my kindle wasn’t broken 😂

message 34: by Mia (new)

Mia I read maybe 5 pages before I DNF’d. Besides the characters being bland from the start and the long descriptions of everything, it is an actual crime to not use quotation marks.

message 35: by RechelCherry (new)

RechelCherry Agreed. It’s annoying to read without the proper punctuation! What exactly was the author trying to accomplish with that?

message 36: by Ana (new) - rated it 1 star

Ana Deyes I tried reading it out loud for a bit and I noticed I was giving the pause and the intention to the dialogues which wasn’t happening in a normal reading. It’s the first time this happens to me and I don’t understand how are we supposed to know it’s a fucking conversation. I knew it was a dialogue after having read the whole thing then I had to think and read it again. Horrible.
