liked it
bookshelves: adult, adult-historical, fiction

Update: it is with a heavy heart that I must announce not a single tear was shed. I felt nothing. I did not actively dislike this book, and there are things I actually liked about it. I just did not care about any of it. The voice actors did a pretty good job, though.

On a scale of 1 to irreversibly devastated, how much will this book hurt?

Rachel Off the scale devastated

Mawish This is making me want to buy a copy for myself now

message 8: by Katrina (new) - added it

Katrina Depends on whether you do print or audiobook.

Chloë 1 lol.

Belulu 3
Only a few of drama

message 11: by Ingo (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ingo listen to the audio!! it seems like most people who read the physical copy didn't like it and those who listened to the audio did (i listened to the audio and it was great!!)

Sophia I wouldn’t be surprised if you cried so a solid 7.5

Evelina It had me crying in the middle of the night, but I still wouldn't call it devastating. I’d say 7 tops.

BAM doesn’t answer to her real name If you choose audiobook I say 8 because you’re really going to wish this band was real

Kayden James When I read this, I chose the audiobook route, and oh man did I love this book. I think by going with the audiobook it really brought the story and characters to life for me, so i would say it probably hit me a lot harder than it would have if I physically read it.

I really hope you enjoy it!

chai (thelibrairie on tiktok!) ♡ Wow. Okay. I kinda like how polarizing this book is. I'm gonna try the audiobook for the second half as per everyone's suggestions because while I don't actively dislike the book, I'm not really invested either (yet anyway) :(

Fawzia Breathing Books This one is sooooo goooood.

message 18: by Michaela (new) - added it

Michaela Wagner I tried with the audio book and turned it off and returned it like 1.5hrs in!

Tessa Noble Probably an 11! I read it in a day it was so good!

Rukky Shonubi Out of this world. It's worth all the hurt. 🤧

message 22: by Ale (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ale Silva irreversibly devastated. Its fantastic :)

message 23: by Leeann (new) - added it

Leeann Moreau The book was really well written and I enjoyed most of the characters (while not really loving any of them too much). I wanted more from it for the hype, and it was kind of just okay. I think I would have liked it more if it ended differently. The way a few of the characters were treated (especially the few I liked) made me angry.

georgia definitely the upper end of the scale 😭

Lisa I loved this one! So beautiful 💖

Glyn Ashworth-Cobban Reads I've heard so many mixed reviews of this one in terms of how sad it was lol

ketsy That's how I felt too. Nothing overtly sad about it. The main "love story" wasn't important enough to me. I think I only ever felt bad for Karen and (dude whose name I forget).

Katherine I loved this book, but I can see why people have mixed feelings.

message 29: by Joan (new)

Joan This book was overrated to the high heavens

Julia i adored this book probably because of how personal it felt to me- hitting several checkpoints resulting in making me cry at the ending, i understand though why you did not ahaha.

Leisa Morton SAME! I think the narration was amazing, and I was convinced enough that I actually did a google search to see if there actually had been a band, but I didn’t enjoy the content, and found it really hard to find a connection with the characters.

Sherri I loved this audiobook. It felt like a movie that took place in my head! I think part of what I loved was how it broke down the music creation process. If you love music and the process of music, then that probably increases your appreciation for the book.

message 33: by Emma (new) - rated it 2 stars

Emma I struggled to enjoy the format as a physical book, maybe it’s a just a better experience as an audiobook!

Micaela Jimenez this was an easy book to read that had no feelings in it, truly a missed opportunity with for such an interesting format

message 35: by Jen (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jen I just finished the audio and your description is exactly how I felt. I liked it enough, but it didn't hit me like it seemed to for so many others.

Kaitlin I felt nothing because I really felt like it was just based on actual people and actual bands and listening to real interviews/music would be so much more satisfying than this tease.

message 37: by J.D. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.D. THANK YOU! This was an enjoyable book although the author seemed to think they were super clever with the characters different memories which was really overdone. It was fast food in book form. Gets the job done and is satisfying in the short term but no long appeal.

message 38: by Liz (new)

Liz Martin Just ok for me. Good in parts. Annoying characters.

sylia i literally have never sobbed harder while reading a book😭😭

Zawadi @sylia i literally have never sobbed harder while reading a book😭😭.

You need to be serious, you actually cried?

Isabelle Oh, I didn't know people cried reading this😅 the characters sure had some sad stories but nothing tear-jerking

Linda Michelle I enjoyed but no tears on my end 😂

Silvia B. @Micaela I definitely agree with you.

message 44: by Rhonnie (new) - added it

Rhonnie Cough Were we supposed to cry? I wasn’t nearly invested enough in these people for tears.

Ellie Starks (Morton) This is the first book this year I haven’t cried at!
