Consider me dramatically and unequivocally unimpressed.
I did not laugh once. I do not engage with stories that are simple allegory to represent a philosophy. I want a little bit of substance. I want some storytelling involved.
Call it a product of its time if you like, but laziness is the word that comes to mind.
I won't waste anymore words here.

THANK YOU! I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this book extremely dull
doesn't it feel bad to read a book ending up with one star, it's like you have sacrificed time for a good book worth that time. Or maybe just me

I had to read this for school and I wasn't a fan... Easy to read but overrated novel imo

I agree it wasn’t funny. I didn’t laugh once either. Still I liked the sarcasm and the satirical voice.I rated it 4 but I do agree the jokes in the book weren’t funny at all. I think They really only appeal to sarcastic, pessimistic people

I didn’t laugh either. It’s not that kind of satire. I was horrified most of the time.
Ok, that was a bit dramatic but it's one of favorite books of all times and I hate you right now 😂. I absolutely love Voltaire's sense of humor and satire and I thought Candide was a brilliant masterpiece (deep sigh).
