Gibson, il Cyberpunk.
Immancabile appuntamento per ogni lettore di fantascienza. Questo romanzo e la trilogia dello Sprawl sono considerati tra i migliori rappresentanti del genere cyberpunk, definendo concetti come la RETE, umani potenziati ciberneticamente, memorie scaricabili in ROM, mega corporazioni e megacittà che si estendono per decine e decine di chilometri, oscure e piene di neon.

Praticamente dall'84 e per oltre un buon decennio si è immaginato il futuro sulla base dei suoi romanzi, con umani collegati tramite spinotti cerebrali direttamente alla Rete informatica, combattendo realmente a colpi di virus informatici banche dati governative e corporative iperprotette, rischiando ad ogni intrusione la propria mente e la propria vita, idea ripresa e abusata da tanti scrittori e registi del periodo e successivi.

La narrazione è piena di neologismi, un vero idioma dei bassifondi, intricata e a volte anche difficile da seguire perché Gibson si cimenta in voli pindarici descrittivi allo stesso modo dei salti nella rete dei suoi personaggi.
4 stelle pienamente meritate per il suo genio immaginifico, dopotutto ha saputo "creare" e definire un genere letterario.

An unmissable appointment for every science fiction reader. This novel and the Sprawl trilogy are considered among the best representatives of the cyberpunk genre, defining concepts such as the NET, cybernetically enhanced humans, downloadable memories in ROM, mega corporations and megacities that extend for dozens and dozens of kilometers, dark and full of neon.

Practically since '84 and for over a good decade he has imagined the future on the basis of his novels, with humans connected via brain plugs directly to the computer network, actually fighting hyper-protected government and corporate databases with computer viruses, risking every intrusion one's mind and one's life, an idea taken up and abused by many writers and directors of the period and later.

The narrative is full of neologisms, a true idiom of the slums, intricate and sometimes even difficult to follow because Gibson engages in descriptive flights of fancy in the same way as the leaps in the network of his characters.
4 stars fully deserved for his imaginative genius, after all he was able to "create" and define a literary genre.
