I don't have much to say about the story except that nothing stands out. Like I haven't read about any of this 1001 times. 😑 A big bad guy (we have to take his word for that) marries a girl to execute his revenge and after some weird ass occultic ceremonies they embark on their sex fest mingled with spanking sessions.
Open any Natasha Knight's book and you'll find Ivy and Santiago there under different names and similar circumstances.
Stock characters bore me to death. A spark of personality would be a nice touch. 🙏

P. S. Another supposedly dangerous anti-hero who is a softie? :) I would have appreciated to get a glimple of his dark side at least once instead of being told about it every 3rd page.

Lau (semi-hiatus) ♡ I hate when they tell you something instead of showing! So many heroes are supposed to have a "dark" side while their actions show them as cinnamon rolls... I prefer softies, but it's so annoying. Hope your next reading is better!🧡

veronica(ver) terisa [on major hiatus] I didn't like it either even unlike most of my friends. First the characters are forgettable and no personality only the typical high profile man chooses the virgin lower profile lady whom no one loves. Second I'm like very much sure that Santiago was attacked by her mother or brother not father.
Eh, pretty bland except the last chapter.

Dora Koutsoukou Great and honest review Irunia!! I was very hesitant for this series.. 🤔🤔

Nayeli ♡ Yes, I totally agree with you! Idk why authors sometimes make it look like their heroes have an incredible "dark and bad side", but that's not what you get when you keep reading. It's a shame you didn't like this book, but I really hope your next book is better🙇🏼‍♀️✨

Thx, Lau. 💛 I have nothing against softies but when the author tries to convince me that the" cinnamon roll " (I liked that one haha) is a dangerous, dark man? It feels weird and says volumes abt the author's writing skills. 👾

D.L. Howe Well hell, I was looking forward to this one. Great review, girl!

I agree with everything you've pointed out. So bland and clichéd. I really couldn't put a face to anyone in the story. We only know that the hero is hot and dangerous, the h - underloved and naive, the brother - stupid and cruel, the mother - evil and uncaring cuz we're told so but why, how? What makes them like that? People are complex creatures and to give them 2-3 main traits is such a simplistic approach to developing ur characters. Many of my friends liked or even loved this book so I felt kinda lonely here lmaooo, thanks for sharing ur thoughts with me😌

Thx, Dora!! 😇 Honestly a lot of my friends and people on GR in general liked this so it could be a hit or a miss for you. My main problem with the book is the writing style that failed to engage me+ typical formularic characters

Thank you so much, Nayeli. 🖤 Ikr? If you can write a softie why not admit it and so be it? Who are these authors trying to convince when they put words like badass or monster in their characters' mouths ? 😂

Debbie, I HOPE you'll like it better than me 😇😘

Mareeva Irunia I think you've been ruined for any of these basic ass mafia romances😂 they are just too soft for you now

Summer ❤️ Thank you for the heads up as I was contemplating ...... now I won't waste my time. Have a great weekend 😘

JD (on semi-hiatus) Irunía,

Yes, I agree. That's my problem with this author's books: they really are so formulaic. I find myself saying the same thing in my reviews...even as I keep reading them. I do like the gothicness in them,

JD

I get it. Sometimes certain author keeps writing things I'm not okay with, but it doesn't dissuade me from reading their 📖

Any virgins? Or he-she ever married before???

message 20: by Ashleyjo (new)

Ashleyjo I hate being TOLD how big and bad a character is only to read he’s the exact opposite. I’ll pass. Fab review, I.

⚔Irunía⚔ @LittleBirdie, tbh I wiped this book outta my memory so I don't remember the details. I think this marriage was the first one for both of them (my shelves say so at least) 🧐

⚔Irunía⚔ @Ashleyjo, I'd rather authors didn't try to sell me their characters as baddies when they clearly aren't it. I guess that's what is left for authors to do (say how badass they are) when they have no sophistication to show 😔

daemyra, the realm's delight I just finished Knight's Devil's Pawn (set in this secret society universe) and I'm feeling the same kind of way. I feel like it could be an exciting read but it's just not gelling together.

⚔Irunía⚔ @irene, unfortunately most mafia romances feel like that to me rn. The reason why I'm not reading them lately, miss Knight's books included

message 25: by Leia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Leia Faiga I am so glad I’m not the only one who felt this way! I’m not a mafia romance person and this proved me why I don’t like them. Now I know I can be left in the dark about the ending

⚔Irunía⚔ @Leia, I love the idea of a mafia romance but the execution is lacking in most cases. Which is a shame, considering how much space a mafia book offers for interesting and original aspects, plot twists and relationship dynamics
