(A-) 84% | Very Good
Notes: Few things new, but more to chew, still weird, but less and sparing, a smaller-scale family tale, it focuses on pairings.

Above: Everyone to me about this series... especially the second panel.

Chapters 7-8:
(1) One of my pet peeves is when authors leave foreign speech untranslated.
- I mean, I'm just going to Google Translate it anyway.
(2) This second book's already a good deal better than the first.
- Now that the groundwork's laid, and rules established, story can be the main focus."

Chapters 9-12:
(1) Shock first pages and poignant last pages are one of the series' highlights.
(2) I'm doubling-down on my idea that the main characters, at least, speak with British accents.
- There are just too many Briticisms to say unironically with an American accent.
(3) One five-star issue for me out of this lot, Chapter Eleven.
- The bookmark line really got to me."

Happy to hear that, Kayla! It definitely satisfies what need I have for weird fiction, and overdelivers 😁👍

Danielle Grant Very accurate review, lol. I'm left with one lingering question from this Volume, what is the significance of the cover art? I thought it would've been explored in one of the chapters, particularly Marko's time before he took his oath of non-violence. Any thoughts?

Glad you like the review, Danielle! Usually the cover to a volume has little significance beyond being (most of the time) the cover of the first issue. In the first issue of this volume, it starts with a flashback to Marko as a child, being educated by his parents on the ongoing war, and why he should hate the wings. So, my interpretation of the cover is that it's the version of Marko that he should have been had he not fallen in love with Alana. It also gives you an expectation of his parents' feelings toward her upon their first meeting, and what one might expect following that issue's cliffhanger ending.

Wow, what a thoughtful response. Thank you for taking the time. I think this is an excellent way to think about it. And now I also know the cover of volumes usually corresponds to the first issue which also is a nice piece of info to have, lol.

My pleasure, Danielle. Happy I could provide some insight :)
