Bill Kerwin's Reviews > The Invention of Morel
The Invention of Morel
by
The Invention of Morel is a romantic classic in which passion triumphs over convention, a surrealist classic in which imagination triumphs over reality, a science fiction classic in which technology triumphs over time, and a mystery story whose fantastic resolution always plays fair with the reader.
Is corporeality necessary for human personality? Is community possible even in isolation? Can love survive death and--perhaps what is worse--complete indifference? Bioy Casares novel addresses all of these questions.
Not bad for a little book not quite one hundred pages long.

Oh, Mr. Kerwin you read this book too! And certainly it's a romantic classic.

I suppose you have hear the legend that there was no Jorge Luis Borges, that he was made up by Bioy Casares who not only wrote all his books, but invented his person and hired an actor to play him when necessary

No I hadn't heard it. Thanks for telling me. It is a great story. And that actor playing Borges was superb!

Have you ever watched the TV series LOST? They took Morel, updated the technology and ran it over six years. I doubt Casares estate saw much of the lucre.

And Bioy took the idea from Verne's "The castle of the Carpatians"
