did not like it

Going to read this despite the fact that's it's Oprah.............. (The Great Migration fascinates me)
Well that was depressing :-( Not a single character to care about and this was NOT the Great Migration that I know about. Not reccommended.

Denise Susan,
Highly recommend "The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration." Nonfiction that shares the stories of three African Americans who migrated from the South -- Mississippi to Chicago, Florida to Harlem and Louisiana to California. Enjoyed this book so much that I convinced the Friends of the Library to purchase a "Book Club in a Bag." BCB is 12 books plus a handout which includes discussion questions -- available for 6 week checkout to anyone who lives in my county. If you read this let me know what you think.

Susan Thanks Denise but I mean THIS Great Migration:

Great Migration of Puritans from England to New England (1620–1643)

My interest in genealogy at the time made me aware of this Great Migration. I didn't realize others had used the same phrase.

Can't wait to read it!!

Jennifer The Great Migration refers to the movement of Blacks up North and out West from the South. I've NEVER heard of European expansion / colonialism called the Great Migration...

Paige I second Jennifer's comment. Do you think it was intentional that they took the phrase used for a huge event in Black American culture and co-opted it for colonialism?

bruinbutterfly exactly "not a single character to care about"

Susan Granted this is from Wickipedia but the phrase The Great Migration has been used over the years to describe many historical events. In historical order, their examples include:

Great Migration, Great Migrations, or The Great Migration may refer to:

The Migration Period of Europe from 400 to 800 C.E.
Great Migration of Puritans from England to New England (1620–1643)
Great Serb Migrations from the Ottoman Empire to the Habsburg Monarchy (1690 and 1737)
Great Migration of Canada, increased migration to Canada, (approximately 1815–1850)
Great transatlantic migrations, a voluntary mass migration of Europeans to the Americas (1836–1916)
Great Migration, resulting from the 1947 Partition of British India
African American "Great Migrations":
The original Great Migration (African American) from the southern United States to the northern United States (1910–1930)
The Second Great Migration (African American) from the southern United States to the northern and western United States (1941–1970)
The New Great Migration, reverse migration from the North, Midwest and the West to the southern United States (1965–present)
The Great Migration of 1843, the first large group of settlers to travel via the Oregon Trail to the Oregon Country
The Great Trek of South African Boers away from British colonial power
