it was ok

A shallow, one-sided presentation of the cycle of violence and sexual dysfunction. There was some interesting analysis on divorce laws and its aftermaths and about the philosophical origins of the sexual revolution but most else was either shallow or rather ridiculous.

For example, the author attempts to argue that consent doesn’t really matter when it comes to sexual activities between adults, so then when a man chokes a woman during sex, it means that this man likes to “beat up” women to get hard and even though the woman consented, the man should be criminally charged because this kind of sex isn’t “good”. Furthermore apparently these kinds of “bad” fantasies are really liked only by men and women mostly like regular “good” kind of sex. It appears as though she’s desperately trying to depict women as some Victorian era manifestations of purity, who faint at mere mention of penises. She even manages to argue that the music video “Wet ass pussy” by Cardi B has nothing to do with female sexuality and somehow is a representation of male sexuality. I mean I agree that the video is pretty distasteful but can we allow some accountability on the part of women? Also the problem of violence and sexual violence is obviously a male problem, because men are violent and rapey.

This kind of biased, one-sided take on a complex problem like the cycle of violence really serves no purpose other than to divide men and women and to claim that one team is better than the other. It will take us further from any possible solution.

On the one hand, if we wish to broaden our understanding, we could look at some statistics, like for example that women start about 50% of domestic violence incidents in many Western countries or that in the 2010 CDC intimate partner sexual violence survey, there were the same number of male victims during the year 2010 than there were female victims, only that male victims were categorized not as “rape” but dismissed as “made to penetrate”. Still a long way to go to recognize male victims of sexual violence, even in the Western world.

The real taboo topic still seems to be female violence and how it relates to this cycle that we’re talking about. Has anyone ever heard any feminist talk about the violence mothers commit against their babies and toddlers?

I mean yes, men are generally more violent than women but there is one very important thing to consider. Before men are men, they are boys. When they are boys, they are parented, educated and disciplined by women. They are raised by women. And those women scream at them and hit them a lot. 80% of British mothers hit their babies before the babies are even 1 year old. An estimated 25% of pedophiles are women. According to a US study, middle class mothers hit their babies and toddlers an average of 900 times a year. The fact that endlessly bashing defenseless babies has never come up in the discourse of the cycle of violence among feminists or really anyone for that matter is absolutely ridiculous and serves as a reminder of credible these people really are.
