my heart is broken. i am BEYOND SHATTERED
there are dual timelines within this book, those being the main couple and the story of mrs. nash in the past, which truly took the spotlight
mrs. nash’s tells the story of her queer romance that took place during WW2…when i tell you i am destroyed by them i am actually never recovering! the entire four stars go to them!!! otherwise i probably wouldn’t have finished this book 🫠
millie and hollis, our mc’s were borderline unbearable…the banter was cute in the beginning and the writing is very breezy and easily digestible, but after reading you, with a view especially (which is another road trip romance!) this one didn’t compare. millie was “quirky” and damnit if she didn’t give me the ick on multiple occasion. hollis with the heart of gold is supposed to be a moody brooder on the outside but it really just…a dick. and never really in a fun way they always seemed to take the anger/fighting/immaturity too far for me to root for them
as for the writing, there was something about it that made me not want to reach for it when i stopped reading. it was lacking more depth i feel like? even the characters who had their own set of realistic(?) traumas werent compelling or for lack of a better word DEEP enough.
