3.5 stars! Sable Peak is the 6th, and final book, in the Edens series! This is a small town romance, with a single dad hero and starts off with unrequited love (heroine towards the hero)!

“Why did I have to love him? Why couldn’t I want anyone other than Mateo Eden? It would be so much easier that way.”

If you’ve read the previous book in the series (Crimson River), then you’ll have met the heroine of this book. I think knowing her story and background will help. Vera meets the Eden family through Vance (the hero of Crimson River) and once she sees Mateo Eden, she’s instantly into him. She starts crushing on him immediately and we see her there the day he finds out he’s a father and didn’t know it. Mateo had previously moved away from Montana to Alaska, but he’s been back with his family in Montana when he gets a call that changes his life…he has a daughter, Allie. Allie comes into his life and Vera kind of watches from the sidelines, but is always around because she lives in one of his family’s properties, helps with his sister Lyla’s store, his parents help her out, and she helps with his daughter too.

We see two years pass by within the first 20ish% of the book and Vera is still waiting on Mateo to notice her. One night, Vera sees Mateo at a bar with another woman and gets drunk and approaches them, she rattles off all the things she knows/has noticed about Mateo, then kissed him and runs off. That is when he finally notices she’s interested in him. From there, we see him quickly bring her into his and his daughter’s life.

Vera has a lot to work through from her past and with her dad. She still has a lot of repressed trauma and grief and runs off a lot. I love the Edens family as a whole so it was fun seeing all their moments together, we get to see the inaugural Edens family camping trip, he shares his love of flying with her and teaches her how to fly, he calls her “Peach”, she goes hiking on Sable Peak (his fav trail), and healing together. Things move fast when the story starts and I wasn’t as pulled into this couple or characters like I have with other books from this author. Juniper Hill remains top tier for me in this series and I am not a huge fan of heroine pining first, but the epilogue was so sweet and a fun wrap up for the series!

I received an ARC from Valentine PR, all thoughts in this review are my own. Sable Peak is out December 7, 2023!
