it was amazing

I wanted to savor this book because I knew the end of this series would sting, but I couldn't keep myself from eating it up, so I’m here, grieving one of my favorite series and I have no idea how to move on.

Vera and Mateo own my heart, their book just pushed Jasper Vale from my top 3.

I knew I would love it. I knew Vera had so much to give and it wouldn’t be easy.

I loved that the start of the book was just from Vera’s POV and I wished it wouldn't be so rushed because I know a crush that deep wouldn't start from just a “presentation” between the two of them, so I wished I had more details about how this feeling “grew”, but I think for having that I would need a book just about the “before”.

I had my doubts about the main trope, instead I just feel like the unrequited love trope wasn't so “heavy” as in other books I've read. I don't like when the FC acts like a doorstep to gain the MC’s attention, and Vera did not. She navigated her first real crush after years in the wilderness in a way that a “normal” girl wouldn’t, I know I wouldn't.

Mateo was so real for his trouble finding his “call”, I felt connected to him. The way everyone around him had found their path, pursued their dream, and he was just stuck there, doing something just because that is what society expects from you, no matter if you liked it or not.

Yes, probably I did expect more about Mateo, not just his love for his daughter, the pain of finding what to do with his life, and his love for Vera. I probably wanted more insight into how he found out about Allie instead of just two phrases. I probably wanted to read about what he was going through in the “fighting” with Madison’s parents. I think there was so much left out of Mateo, but I also think Vera had a big background and there were a lot of questions to be answered, and that was the main focus. Like in Crimson Creek, the main focus wasn't the romance between Vance and Lyla, but the mystery about the Gallaghers.

So yes, maybe those missing pieces disappointed me a bit, but in less than 400 pages there wasn't much space to give everyone everything. In the end, I think this book was just a perfect end for a perfect series, even with its little missing pieces.

previous review:

The way some of you hate on this book (after getting just small glimpses from the end of Crimson River) it’s really scary.

How can you already hate a book or a character without having any idea about it?LOL

Why are you suddenly mad that Vera is the FMC? I’d be mad if she wasn’t, because in Crimson River there was a whole house of secrets to unlock about THAT night, and I need answers.

And why are you mad if the FMC is pining after the MMC and not the other way around? Where does it say the MMC has to be the one going after someone? Okay that it’s fiction, but let’s be honest, the chance that a man is pining after a woman are really low.

Stevie All of this!!! As soon as we met Vera in Crimson River, I had so many questions. Both of them have some serious issues, though, so that is going to be interesting!! I'm very excited for this one!
