a total shitshow.
despite the common monomythic DNA that should have excused it, this book seemed altogether cribbed from robert jordan's wheel of time series.
and then doused with absurd flourishes of disturbing provenance until it fairly reeked.
like when some seriously NYC-aggro person opens a plate of take-out chinese chicken wings in hot sauce on the subway.
usually just after the express leaves 125th and everyone has to spend the next eight minutes in an enclosed space together, stewing in the fumes.
.............but yeah, i hated this.

Ha! I read all 11 books. Do I get a medal? :P
I did like them (at the time). I think I'll like them less if I read them now. But I just pictured Richard from the series and I was drooling in my mind...

I loved the first few books. Having read WoT now, too - I think the last book, well, the last few books suffered on account of Jordan being deceased. Take from that what you will. >:D
The BDSM and Ayn Rand philosophies didn't bother me; I'm not averse to either, however, recycled content is recycled content.
Individualism is an interesting study to me, but if you use the same mouthpiece to reverberate the same message over and over...... yeah - even your supporters think pushing your philosophies into your work till it suffocates a storyline is not cool, bro.

His perfect person BS- with no real backstory or experience, really irks me as I look back through the entire series.
And I agree 100%, Julio. Even as someone who enjoyed the books, from a full view of the entire series, his character development was already in place as it started. He's the genius. He's the strongest. He's the most resilient. Brave. THE ONE. He's the exception to the rules of mankind. XD
Also, everyone around him had faults, but he didn't. Those that were flawed are the ones that enriched the story for me. :D
The last book itself was riddled with so much "GOD MODE" nonsense and worldbreaking mechanics, that I seriously think the man lost his freakin' mind. There's a fine line between figuring out codes/methods/means of complex riddles and puzzles, but none of the last book's ideas were grounded in ingenuity; it reminded me of Dragonball Z. "The answer to X puzzle is somewhere, far far away, that we can never ever reach...... oh look, five minutes later, we're there!"
And all of the Big Mysteries that were framed from book 1 till the last? We already knew the answers to, but guess what? We get TOLD what we already knew/know...over and over. Also, the best characters were left dead, but the most profanely slackster ones came back to life. -.- Lmao
Overall, I'd give the entire series a 3 rating. Half of the books I loathed, half I thought were pretty good. It's really a mixed bag.
That's probably a prejudice rating too, because I started when I was 14. >:P

was this this series that had the quote "That was no chicken, it was evil incarnate?" I seem to remember something about that...
omg i think it is! don't know if this is from the book you read but, uh, check this out. eeeeviiiil chicken http://winteriscomingbitch.tumblr.com...
I was gonna say... isn't this the series with the evil chicken? Pluto beat me to it.
Everything about this was the worst. Well, maybe not exactly, but a lot of it is the worst and then it gets more and more terrible until you wish you had never.
For me this is marked as read because I read it, then successfully erased it from my memory, and then accidentally read it again. So now all I know is that reading it is bad.

The books have been made into an even more awful tv show (Legend of the Seeker). The first season was pretty good, but after that it got absolutely ridiculous. The show was canceled...
But..... EYE CANDY!!
And yes, this is the series with an evil chicken. :P

I appreciate your magnanimity. Goodkind is a touchy subject, I ought to have phrased that more carefully.
