did not like it

i wrote like 1500 words about this but in trying to arrange them coherently, i realized it wasn't worth the effort.

the prose is readable but stale, uninspired, and shallow. most everything reads like a summary of events rather than active scenes. meetcute sucks. the romance is weak. the revenge plot is weaker.

women can be strong-willed and independent and have ambitions they work their whole life towards but never forget that their reward at the end of the day is Marriage and Motherhood only.

while i recognize this as an overarching genre pitfall, i don't understand how anyone can read something like this and not feel AT THE VERY LEAST put off at the notion of one person owning over 300 acres of land (and gee, where did that land come from?). and then making that his entire life goal that you, the reader, are supposed to root for....

the "Wise Indigenous Mentor Spiritually Connected to the Natural World" character is actually a white guy who was abducted by a tribe as a kid which, in its own way, feels even more racist in a book whose cast is basically all white. like it's downright bizarre.

dawg im never buying a blind book again. $5 i'll never get back
