Just a word of warning, if somebody leaves a creepy, little cloth doll with thread sewn features...don't take it in. Burn it quick...get help...

Koontz writes books the run from fantastic to (in my opinion) almost unreadable. This one is on the plus side. Enjoyable. Though again I wonder, did this guy NEVER read a horror novel or see a horror movie. Never trust creepy dolls.

Denis I have had problems with Dean Koontz. It is hard to enjoy most of his work yet he is so popular. The reason I bother at all to read him is because A: He started out as a Ace SF writer, and B: because I thought, perhaps, he might be a decent Stephen King substitute. And I liked a radio interview I heard him do back in early 2000 or so. He sounded good, I liked him. But I am still looking for that great novel. So far "Lightning" and "Winter's Moon" (and maybe "Demon Seed") were not bad.

Mike (the Paladin) I'm not sure what we'd share taste wise but.... I liked Watchers and a couple other of his earlier books then it seemed to me he (that's me) that he wrote a lot of books that seemed like sort of stories geared to movie ideas. After that he went through another period where he wrote a lot of books I liked. BUT most of his recent books have left me cold again. My wife liked his stuff, that's sort of how I was introed to him.

This is one of the ones I liked pretty well from his middle period, or what I think of as his middle period.

Sort of "to each" I suppose.

Denis Okay, but I'm more of a cat person.

Mike (the Paladin) ...have you looked at the pictures on my profile page? I live with 4 cats. I put it that way as any cat person knows the cats are in charge they simply allow us to stay with them. :)

I have noticed that Koontz gives cats short-shrift. Some do show up for a scene in The Taking.

Clouds It's not a great book... but it's a big personal favorite of mine!
I read it when I was young, adored the madcap pacing and
fell in love with Del more than a little :-)
