This trilogy is just getting more intense and I love it! It's been two weeks since Roth had thrown himself into the fiery pits of hell. Layla feels lost in a way because Roth helped her love all the parts of herself she was told to hate. When he returns it's not a warm welcome. Roth breaks Layla's heart telling her everything they did together was only fun. So, now Layla has to deal with a broken heart while trying to find the Lilin before it's too late. She's also dealing with Warden's who'd rather see her dead. Her relationship with Abbot who has always been like a father to her is strained as well. Layla's love life also starts to get even more complicated. In this book I started to like Zayne. In the first book I did not like him because he didn't act like a good friend to Layla. In this book we understand why Zayne kept himself away from Layla as much as he could. With Roth out of the picture Zayne brings up the idea to try dating with Layla. Layla agrees, but she can barely ignore her thoughts on Roth. Despite what Roth told her she still has strong feelings for him. He's still in the back of her mind. I'm still team Roth, but this book was really started to make me not like him much. Roth still flirted with Layla and acted like a jackass. Even though Roth told Layla everything between them was nothing more then fun, he still asked about her and Zayne's relationship and whatnot. I had a feeling that Roth was just telling Layla all this for another reason. He acted so cold and still perverted too, but it made me so angry. Don't expect the person you let down to still want to make out with you. Granted, when she wanted to he did try to hold back and was able to stop after Layla and he did kiss. Of course we learn much later why Roth kept Layla at bay. It was not for the original reasons he gave and that made me really happy. It still proved how much he loved Layla. But now everything is going to be more complicated. Some of the Wardens think Layla is the Lilin while Layla, Roth, and Stacey know the truth. But now I'm like where the fuck is Sam or is it still the same body just with a Lilin in it? Also, now that Layla knows the real truth behind Roth's coldness upon his return, she's probably conflicted on if she wants Roth or Zayne. Both of these guys are great for similar and different reasons. Zayne and Layla are best friends who have been close for years. They are finally getting their chance at a missed opportunity of romance. Zayne would do anything for Layla and loves her dearly. He's been a great friend during her loss of Roth and is trying to make up for being a complete jackass before. Roth loves Layla for all she is and helped her love those parts of herself she had been taught to hate. Roth always defends and protects her, even if it meant keeping himself away from her. Usually, I go for the best friends becomes lovers type of romance, but not this time. Just because I feel like Zayne was not a good friend in the last book. I couldn't fathom why Layla liked the guy. He constantly pushed her away and argued with her. He was also one of the Wardens who taught her to hate the demon part of herself. Zayne is trying to make up for it and did apologize. But the way he is doing it, makes it seem like he's doing it because Roth had left. Now Zayne can swoop in and pick up the pieces. No, sorry buddy that's not how it works. Roth has always been by Layla's side even from afar. Roth loves everything about Layla, he protected her when Zayne didn't answer his damn phone, and even though it hurt them both he kept himself at a distance to protect Layla. They are both pretty great guys in the long run, but Roth is on a much higher scale for me. I know I'm focusing on the love triangle here, but I love this love triangle. I'm not usually a fan, but damn it Jennifer you sucked me in! ...more "

“Vhat ozzer abilities do you haf?" ter Borcht snapped, which his assistant waited, pen in hand.
Gazzy thought. "I have X-ray vision," he said. He peered at ter Borcht's chest, then blinked and looked alarmed.
Ter Borcht was startled for a second, but then he frowned. "Don't write dat down," he told his assistant in irritation. The assistant froze in midsentence.
"You. Do you haf any qualities dat distinguish you in any way?"
Nudge chewed on a fingernail. "You mean, like, besides the WINGS?" She shook her shoulders gently, and her beautiful fawn-colored wings unfolded a bit.
