I hadn't read any other books in this series, but was able to follow the story despite the large number of characters who appear to have been in previous books.

I found this on the "new books" shelf at the library and was interested because the blurb mentioned Occitan and music. I learned about Occitan from one of my favorite musical groups, Windborne, but had never seen or heard any other references to it. The first part of the story made me glad

it was amazing
This is not (except tangentially) about Amy Schneider's experiences on Jeopardy! It is a memoir which was made possible as a commercial book because she became known from being on the show. A memoir by a trans woman whom no one had heard of probably wouldn't have made it to publication.
I'm saying the above because several of the reviews that I read seem to downgrade it because it wasn't what they were expecting. If you're looking for a lot of Jeo
