At the end of last year, Hong Kong's very own Clot announced that it was officially ending its relationship with Nike in search of pastures news. And those pastures new have just been revealed as the Clot x Adidas Superstar ‘Cloud White.’ Is it a sneaker? Is it a brogue? Get you a shoe that can do both – and one that's as a wild as this brand new drop.
Releasing just in time to celebrate the streetwear brand's big 20th birthday (HBD!), Clot's take on the Superstar is unlike most Superstars out there – a pretty big deal considering the silhouette's been around since the ‘50s. Dressed up in a ‘Cloud White’ leather construction that looks a lot more premium compared to conventional pairs, it's contrasted by ‘Core Black’ Three Stripes that run across the sidewalls. Something else that you'll find are lots of little perforations, which are something you'd usually get on a pair of fancy dress shoes.
The classic rubber shelltoe across the front has been replaced with a luxe leather one, and the lacing system has been updated with a loafer-like tassel. The label has also made loads of changes on the bottom half of the trainer as well. Now, a dark brown strip runs across the entire mudguard section, and the midsole boasts a toothy rubber outsole in ‘Crystal Sand.’ All of this is then packed in a special shoebox, which comes with plenty of equally-as-special accessories, which is always nice.
It's true that Clot and Adidas have worked together in the past, but they've only ever collabed on some very small projects. Over the past 18 years, the Edison Chen-helmed imprint has always been fully committed to Nike and Nike only. But, at the end of last year, it decided to part ways with the American sportswear company due to creative differences. This Superstar represents a new epoch in the sneakerverse, and with more pairs set to be announced very soon (including a Samba!), the hype is very real.
The Clot x Adidas Superstar ‘Cloud White’ is set to drop on February 23 at Adidas and select stockists across the globe. A retail price has yet to be announced.
