The first time we saw the Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low was back in October of last year. And after five long and hard months, it's finally been officially confirmed by the trainer gods over at Nike HQ. Made in collaboration with legendary graffiti artist Futura, this is what a holy grail looks like – and it's very much for advanced sneakerheads.
While most SB Dunks are made from leather (or suede, if you're lucky), this version works on top of a white mesh base which makes it super breathable over the hot and stuffy summer months. Canvas overlays wrap around the entire shoe, and these are all decorated with custom artworks in ‘Bleached Aqua’ that were created specifically for this special release.
Futura's signature is scribbled across the lateral heel, tongue tag, and insole, and along the sidewalls you'll find a ‘Geode Teal’ Swoosh that seems to be made from a nubuck-esque material. All of this then sits on top of a bouncy Zoom Air midsole, because this is a skate shoe proper, and skaters need something extra comfy.
And while this is Futura's wildest sneaker with Nike, it's not his only sneaker with Nike. Far from it, in fact. The New York City-born artist's relationship with the label stretches all the way back the early 2000s. Since then, they've worked on a bunch of shoes together. From the SB Dunk ‘Flom’ (which is currently reselling for around an eyewatering £90,000 on StockX), to the SB Dunk ‘Unkle’ (which is going for just over £25,000), he even worked with the late and great Virgil Abloh on a collection of ultra limited Dunk Lows. These were never actually released to the public, but if they did, they'd probably set you back an arm, a leg, and your firstborn child.
Expected to drop on May 10, the Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Bleached Aqua’ will be available at Futura Laboratories, Nike, the Snkrs app, and select retailers globally for £110. As with all SB Dunk collabs, expect this one to sell out.
