Earlier this year, rumours started spreading across the sneakerverse suggesting that the New Balance 1000 was making a comeback. Turns out they were true. But rather than dropping any ol' colourway, the Boston sportswear company has enlisted Joe Freshgoods instead for the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 ‘When Things Were Pure’ collection.

Revealed in ‘Black Ice’ and ‘Pink Mink,’ the Chicago-based designer's take on the 1998 trainer strays very, very far from its dad shoe roots. Rather than going for the OG white and silver tones (boooring), the former is painted predominantly in black and is decorated with brushed brown overlays throughout. The latter, on the other hands, goes for a cute cream and pink palette.

Both sneakers work on top of mesh bases with leather panelling. The “N” logo features across the lateral and medial sidewalls, while “JFG” branding can be found on the toebox and heel. All of this then sits on top of a pair of outrageously thick foam midsoles, and they come packed in super special silver shoeboxes, that have been created specifically for this super special collab.

And this isn't the first time that Joe Freshgoods has helped to introduce a new silhouette. Two years ago, New Balance unwrapped the 9060 model with the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 9060 ‘Inside Voices’ collection. And judging by the fact that every single colourway has been hyped since, we can see the same thing happening with the 1000. You heard it here first.

The Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 ‘When Things Were Pure’ is set to release sometime in April at the Joe Freshgoods webstore. They'll then get an even wider drop sometime down the line at New Balance and select stockists globally. A retail price has yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned.
