Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford, has appeared on the world's biggest magazine covers and trod the longest catwalks for the hypiest womenswear brands in heels most people wouldn't dare slip into. She's a modern-day super, but away from the day job that sees her wear the best womenswear available, she's achieved a laid-back, easy-to-wear style that most guys would probably get down with. Big coats, really nice front-pleated trousers and flat-form sneakers. Most guys including her Very Famous Boyfriend Austin Butler.

It was yesterday in New York City that her pivot to wearing clothes more aligned with menswear was most evident. The 22-year-old model and actor was photographed heading to big appointments to secure big model jobs in the Big Apple, and she wore he run-around-town best. Gerber wore a massive coat, a pair of baggy, straight-leg slacks, a simple grey cardigan and a pair of Adidas Sambas in the OG grey, black and white colourway. Tortoiseshell sunnies up top. It was the sort of thing that most guys in NYC, London and Paris are wearing. It was a TikTok #menswear adjacent fit. And it was incredibly similar to the sort of thing that the aforementioned Butler, who loves a big coat, workaday trousers and Adidas' Three Striped sneakers, is often seen out in. In fact, you'd be forgiven for thinking Gerber had raided his wardrobe. Earlier this week the pair were photographed in relatively complementary fits: Gerber in an oversized trench, those same sunglasses and black Sambas and Butler in a full black fit comprising hoodie, worker jacket and jeans.

But Gerber isn't alone. The summer of 2023 was the season that Hollywood's women really got down with their androgynous swerve. There was Kendall Jenner in big The Row pleated trousers and blocky chore jackets. Jennifer Lawrence became a hero of muted fits comprising oversized trousers, floaty shirts and very nice overcoats. All menswear-coded. No frills, pretty oversized and all the sort of things we ourselves want to wear.

And going into the winter, Gerber's leading the charge on women who are (sorry fellas) doing menswear better than most guys.
