Even though MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon have only been collaborating for a year, they've quickly become one of the sneaker game's heaviest hitters, dropping sell-out collection after sell-out collection. And, for Autumn/Winter 2023, they're ready to do it once again with the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Mid.
Inspired by Salomon's very, very popular Cross line, Maison Margiela has applied its own high fashion twist to it. The shoe itself features a classic slip-on design, but it's totally covered with a nylon waterproof gaiter that's fastened using a toggle switch system and decorated with the Parisian house's number chart – a signature graphic that's been around since the '80s.
Look below, and the beefy midsole has been refreshed with even chunkier tooling that offers additional grip and traction for all those mountains that you'll never actually climb. It's also infused with Energy Cell Plus tech for improved comfort and cushioning compared to previous Cross trainers. All of this comes in a special shoebox and is packed with a selection of equally-as-special accessories. A/W 23 will also feature a collection of new apparel and bags, including Salomon's XT 15 backpack.
When Rihanna set foot on-stage during this year's Super Bowl halftime show, eagle-eyed fashion fans quickly pointed out that not only was she wearing a puffer coat from Alaïa and a Loewe jumpsuit, but she also had the all-red version of the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross. Overnight, searches for the model spiked 4,000 per cent according to Google Trends data, and the cameo also fuelled a 17 per cent bump in sales across all Salomon lines, which is wild.
The MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Mid is set to release sometime within the next few weeks at Maison Margiela, Salomon, and select stockists globally. Even though they're priced at £320 each, expect the collab to sell out absurdly fast.
