Last night, Travis Scott stunned everyone at the Grammys with an apocalyptic performance that was kept very under wraps. From “My Eyes” to “Fe!n,” he belted out some of his most hyped tracks from his latest album, Utopia. It looks like that wasn't the only surprise up his sleeve though, as he also officially unveiled the Travis Scott x Jordan Jumpman Jack ‘Sail.’

From a distance, this silhouette looks a lot like the Houston-born rapper's other trainers. But as soon as you take a closer look, you'll immediately realise that it's a different beast altogether. Marking Scott's first all-original sneaker, the Jumpman Jack has been designed from the ground up by the man himself, and it's injected with his signature aesthetic. Working on top of a black canvas-like material, it's overlaid by panels and panels of ‘Sail’ leather and suede, kinda like the ‘Reverse Mocha’ that he dropped back in 2022.

White cotton laces tie everything together, while a midfoot strap wraps around the front of the shoe to keep everything locked in place. The midsole is made from rubber for extra comfiness and bounciness, and it's lined with a grippy gum rubber outsole. La Flame's Cactus Jack emoji is stitched around the heel in red, and across the lateral sidewall, you'll find a Swoosh logo that's been flipped back to front. This detail has been swiped straight off of the ‘Dark Mocha’ from 2019 – a colourway that has since become the go-to for many of Hollywood's biggest sneakerheads like Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper.

The Jordan Jumpman Jack is a bit of an enigma. Yes, it's Scott's first signature silhouette, and yes, it's all very new and all very exciting. But it also pays homage to styles of the past. The high-top design, for example, nods to Air Jordan's basketball lineup, and the strap and rubber outsole are both inspired by skate shoes from the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. If you really look at it, its overall shape looks a lot like some of Nike’s most popular tennis trainers from the days of yore. It’s basically a mad, mash-up sneaker made for made, mash-up times.
