The double-breasted suit carries an air of formality and pride about it. The breast swoops majestically across the chest and you can’t help but button it up with an exuberant flailing little finger. Its figure-wrapping shape means it pins your shoulders back and helps with your posture. It elicits a certain sense of “dressing up” that not many other styles can.
Tailoring trends of late have leaned towards a looser silhouette, with more space to relax into. In this GQ selection you will find pinpoint smart as well as louche shapes, but on the formality side, you’ll come across a suit so chilled it's worthy of a halfpipe drop-in. Despite its formal heritage, we love that the modern double-breasted suit can hit these different frequencies. GQ’s own Teo van den Broeke called it, “this season’s most important cut”, and below are some compelling reasons why. For more of GQ's sartorial picks, check out our best suits for men.
