Celebrity Halloween costumes: yet another reminder of how the famous and beautiful have way too much money and way too much time on their hands. Unlike us, A-listers don't buy online costume packs or douse themselves down in Tesco's own brand fake blood. Instead, they bring in a team of make-up artists and visual creative directors to outfit them. Sometimes they're heading out to a party, sometimes it's just for Instagram, but always they put the rest of our attempts to shame. From Harry Styles dressed as Elton John circa 1975 to Diddy becoming Batman's nemesis and supervillain the Joker, for celebrities, Halloween is never last minute.

This year, a contender for best celebrity outfit is Florence Pugh, who took meta to new levels by going as her own Midsommar character, the May Queen. Our only disappointment is that she didn't opt for going as Miss Flo.

Diddy as the Joker (Heath Ledger's version) is nothing short of chilling. The rapper nailed the brief, posting images of him in the backseat of a police car and another of him sprawling out on top of a car, and reminded us if you're going as someone infamous, commit to the character. Watch him approach Tyler the Creator for further proof.

Lizzo's take on Marge Simpson proves classic Halloween costume ideas can still hit, especially when done well. We can only imagine how long she spent being painted that lurid shade of Simpsons yellow.

Try Guys' Eugene Lee Yang presented a solid case for going as both the hero and the villain next Halloween. The YouTuber dressed up as Stranger Things' Eddie, and also went as the malevolent Vecna, complete with fleshy prosthetics.

Frankie Jonas used his Halloween costume to troll his brother. He and his girlfriend Anna Olsen dressed up as brother Joe Jonas and ex Taylor Swift as they appeared in 2009's Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. Spicy.

Rebel Wilson's group costume was a lesson in props. The actor, her girlfriend Ramona Agruma, and friends Carly Steel, Jacob Andreou, and Marissa Montgomery, all came this year as an army of Barbies with serious Ken-ergy front and center.

Janelle Monáe didn't cut any corners when dressing up as Diva Plavalaguna from the 1997 sci-fi film The Fifth Element. At least we think that's Janelle Monáe in there.

Meanwhile, Elle Fanning and her boyfriend, Max Minghella, went spooky instead of sexy by going as Chucky and his Bride.

Another top contender for this year, and one which clearly took months of work, came from Ariana Grande and Elizabeth Gillies, whose costumes as Jennifer Coolidge and Jane Lynch in “Best in Show” are wildly original. Again, the commitment we like to see from celebrity Halloween costumes.

And of course, there's Kim Kardashian, whose 'fit as X-Men's Mystique is another lesson in what you can get if you pay the big bucks. That said, she did reportedly turn up to Tracee Ellis Ross' 50th birthday party, only to realise it wasn't a costume party. You can't win them all.
