Mirzapur Season 3: A quick recap Season 1 and 2 - Who lost, who won, who survived, who died in the blood-soaked battle for the throne

Mizapur Season 1

In Season 1, we're introduced to pivotal characters shaping the narrative. The Tripathis, lords of the arms and opium trade, dominate Mirzapur. The show focuses on the rise of the Tripathi crime family, led by Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi), their internal and external conflicts and the entry of the Pandit brothers into their world. In the first season, we see Bablu Pandit and his sister-in-law Sweety tragically killed, leaving Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal) to seek revenge. Soon, we see how Guddu and Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi) plan to take vengeance and settle scores. But they're not alone in their quest for justice. But how does the story become the fight for the throne between Tripathis and Pandits?

Mirzapur starts and ends with a wedding massacre that leaves many traumatised.

Munna (Divyendu Sharma) shoots the groom, and that’s how the Pandit brothers get introduced into his life as they attempt to kill him in return. Kaleen Bhaiya, Munna's father and the ruler of Mirzapur, decides to spare them and offer them to be part of the family's illegal operations. Munna's resentment grows as they help expand the business (something very interesting to watch). Kaleen Bhaiya doubts Munna's ability to manage the empire alone, emphasising the need for loyal allies. Munna, enraged, plots to eliminate the Pandit brothers. Complicating matters, Munna’s crush, Sweety, falls for Guddu, and her sister, Golu, wins the college presidency against him.

Soon, Guddu and Bablu want more than what is being offered to them. Their ambition drives them to climb the ranks of Kaleen Bhaiya’s empire and capture his throne. This ignites Munna's jealousy. In a bid for power, Munna plans to kill his father, Kaleen Bhaiya but fails to execute it. Meanwhile, Kaleen Bhaiya is dealing with sexual struggles, which pushes his wife, Beena, into an affair with Raja. The information about her reaches Satyanand Tripathi aka Bauji, Beena’s father-in-law, who rapes her, declaring if Kaleen can’t impregnate her, he will do it himself to secure the future lineage.

We also see Guddu getting married to Sweety, who eventually gets pregnant. The tension that's been building finally blasts in the bloody climax at the Gorakhpur wedding, resulting in more deaths, some of which will leave you shocked. When Munna learns that Guddu, Bablu, Sweety, and Golu are at a friend's wedding. He storms and opens fire on the guests and kills Sweety. Then, he brutally executes Bablu in front of a horrified Guddu.

If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you'll notice many similarities with Mirzapur. The wedding episode will take you back to the red wedding sequence from GOT, which was packed with betrayal, brutality, death, and blood. The Tripathi clan mirrors the Lannisters, while Ramakant Pandit’s family resembles the Starks. Like the Lannisters' rule, Kaleen Bhaiya dominates Mirzapur until Guddu and Bablu Pandit challenge him. The Tripathis, like the Lannisters, fight fiercely to maintain their power. The show also features illicit relationships and intricate politics, proving that everything is fair in love and war.

As a result of the wedding shootout, the number of enemies against the Tripathi family multiplied, including Kaleen Bhaiya's second wife, Beena (Rasika Dugal), a vengeful minister’s aide and the son of Rati Shankar Shukla, who seeks revenge on Guddu and the throne of Mirzapur, both.

Mirzapur Season 2

Season 2 delivers even more gore, thrills, and a relentless pursuit of revenge. The season picks up immediately after the first season's finale, centering on a quest for vengeance. Guddu and Golu manage to escape the wedding massacre and vow to get the throne of Mirzapur. We also saw Kaleen Bjhaiya and Munna supporting the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Surya Pratap. Munna gets involved with Pratap’s widowed daughter, Madhuri, and Kaleen Bhaiya arranges their wedding. And when the CM dies, Madhuri becomes the new CM, which derails Munna’s plan.

Instead of surrendering, Sharad Shukla schemes to betray Kaleen Bhaiya. Beena becomes pregnant and lies to Kaleen about the baby's paternity. She seeks revenge for her suffering and allies with Guddu and Golu, becoming their informant. The season sees only one Tripathi, Munna, survive. Satyanand Tripathi meets a gruesome end at Beena’s hands. Munna vows to hunt down Maqbool, but Kaleen Bhaiya blames Munna for the chaos. This leads to a power struggle between father and son, with Beena tipping off Guddu about their rift.

In Bihar, Dadda Tyagi orders Chhote to kill his uncle for illegal opium dealings, resulting in the death of one of Tyagi’s twin sons. Tyagi assumes that Bharat is alive, but is he? Back in Mirzapur, Munna suspects his father sent a hitman but can’t bring himself to harm Kaleen. Unexpectedly, Kaleen names Munna his successor and decides to take Bauji’s place. As they adjust to the new arrangement, Guddu and Golu launch an attack, severely injuring Kaleen Bhaiya. They also plan to kill Munna and shoot him point blank, seeking revenge for past deeds. Guddu then takes the Mirzapur throne, signalling a massive shift in power dynamics.

Mirzapur Season 3 and what’s next?

In Mirzapur Season 3, Pankaj Tripathi returns as the shrewd Akhandanand Tripathi, aka Kaleen Bhaiya. Ali Fazal reprises his role as Guddu Pandit, continuing his quest for revenge. Divyenndu is back as Phoolchand Munna Tripathi, Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi and Shweta Tripathi Sharma as Gajgamini Golu Gupta.

The trailer hints at intense confrontations and power struggles following the dramatic events of Season 2. This new season will explore Kaleen Bhaiya's fate, Guddu's relentless vengeance, and will introduce new characters, adding layers to the complex story. Mirzapur grows darker and more brutal and it's all about legacy, bravado, mayhem, and survival.
