The Indian Cricket team has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 tournament, winning all six of their matches so far. Led by Rohit Sharma, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya taking charge as his deputy, the Indian team is considered to be one of the strongest contenders to win the tournament, thanks to its star-studded line-up of players like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, and others. However, the journey to make it to the Indian team hasn't been an easy one for these players who dedicated all their energies to training, some even giving up higher education to pursue their passion for cricket. Rohit Sharma

The captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, completed his primary education at Our Lady of Vailankanni High School. Later, he moved to Swami Vivekananda School, where he was awarded a scholarship for his impressive performance in school cricket tournaments. Also known as Hitman, Sharma passed his 12th board exams but dropped out of Rizvi College to focus on cricket.

KL Rahul

The 31-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batsman completed his schooling at NITK English Medium School in Surathkal, Mangalore, and later attended St Aloysius College. In addition to focusing on his cricketing career, KL Rahul also earned a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College in Bengaluru.

Shreyas Iyer

Just before the commencement of the ICC World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer impressed everyone with his brilliant century against Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Born in Mumbai, Iyer earned a commerce degree from Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics after completing his schooling at Don Bosco High School.

Virat Kohli

One of the most talented cricketers on the planet, Virat Kohli, attended Vishal Bharti Public School in Delhi up to class 9 and then moved to Savior Convent School in Paschim Vihar where he completed his schooling up to class 12. As he was already leading the Indian U-19 team in the World Cup at the time, the former Indian captain decided to skip graduation.

Shubman Gill

Popularly known as the Prince of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill, joined the Indian U-19 cricket team at the age of 17. Due to early success, Gill couldn't pursue further studies after passing the matriculation examination (Class 10th) from Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali. Talking about his inspiration, Gill in a recent exclusive interaction with GQ India said, “Virat Kohli is my idol. He's the biggest name in Indian cricket and I love that I'm getting to play with him. Any right-handed batsman who does well is going to be compared to Virat Kohli. He's the ultimate Indian cricketer.”

Suryakumar Yadav

Born and raised in Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav rose to fame with his impressive batting performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Currently, the vice-captain of the Indian T20I team, Yadav holds a bachelor's degree in commerce (B.Com) from Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science.

Ravindra Jadeja

Well-known for his all-round performance and match-winning abilities, Ravindra Jadeja, served as the vice-captain of the Indian team that won the U-19 Cricket World Cup in 2008. According to a Times of India report, Jadeja chose to drop out of college after completing his education at Shardagram School in Gujarat to focus on his cricket career.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Currently the highest-ranked bowler in Test cricket, right-arm off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin earned a B.Tech in Information Technology from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai before gaining fame in the cricketing world. He was also educated at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School.

Mohammed Shami

Just like most of his teammates, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami focused on cricket after completing his studies at Amir Hasan Khan College in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Recently, the 33-year-old bowler picked up a five-wicket haul against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah

Known for spearheading India's bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah did his schooling at Ahmedabad's Nirman High School. Considered one of the best pacers in the world, he outpaced Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins during the India Tour of Australia in 2018 when he bowled at 153 km/h.

Mohammed Siraj

The 29-year-old right-arm fast bowler dismissed six Sri Lankan players in the Asia Cup 2023 final, earlier this year. Just like Kohli, Sharma, and a few other Indian cricketers, Siraj has also studied till Class 12, according to various online reports. These reports also suggest that he studied at Safa Junior College in Hyderabad's Nampally.
