The Angels’ ace versus the White Sox’s ace

MLB: Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Angels (65-76) @ White Sox (62-78)

GAME 1

(L) (L) Dillon Peters (4.13 ERA) v. (R) Lucas Giolito (3.30 ERA)

Friday, September 6th @ 5:10 PM PST

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, what have we here!

The Angels have a friendly face-off tonight against very, very good pitcher Lucas Giolito, whose meteoric rise has given the South Side some semblance of hurling comfort. After 32 starts of replacement-level performance in ‘18, Giolito has done a complete 180, striking out nearly 12 batters per inning with a 3.82 strikeout-to-walk ratio while ERA’ing and FIP’ping 27% better than league average. Giolito has averaged ten strikeouts over has last six starts, including a 12-K shutout against the Twins on August 21st. Dilly Picklez is overmatched.

In other riveting news, of the 21 remaining games on the LAA docket, FiveThirtyEight gives the Angels a favorable chance to win in just two of those games: and both are against the White Sox. 18-game losing streak incoming?
