Go Behind the Competition in 'Battle on the Mountain'
Here's what it's like filming for HGTV's Battle on the Mountain.

For this show’s first time around the mountain, three teams of two — guided by HGTV hosts Rico León (Rico to the Rescue), Kim Myles (Design Star: Next Gen) and Kim Wolfe (Why The Heck Did I Buy This House?) — were given $100,000 to flip rustic homes 13,000 feet above sea level in Breckenridge, Colorado. This is a behind-the-scenes look at HGTV's newest renovation showdown, Battle on the Mountain.
Each house presents its own unique challenges, and a one-week time limit for each space’s renovation doesn’t cut these designers any breaks. Luckily, the mentors and competitors are taking fans inside the making of a Battle on the Mountain makeover via social media. Here are some details on what it's like behind the camera.
Ty Puts Up a Smoke Screen
After winning Battle on the Beach, Ty Pennington is taking a break from competing and putting on his host hat for Battle on the Mountain. He might be trading the sand for the slopes, but while walking through a plume of smoke, he said, “This season of 'Battle on the Mountain' is gonna be hot.” Seems like Ty will be right at home!
Go the Extra Myles
No one can accuse Kim Myles of not enjoying her time on the battleground. Her laugh is perfect for echoing off the surrounding peaks and grounding her mentees, Lymari and Tony, when they start feeling the pressure.
Lymari and Tony Think Scandi Is Dandy
When it came time for the teams to choose which of three different houses they'd like to renovate, Lymari and Tony ended up with last pick. But they made the best of their circumstances, vowing to turn their rundown space into a Scandinavian dreamland. The Indiana duo pushed themselves out of their comfort zone with the help of their mentor, Kim Myles, and didn’t let the cabin’s challenges rock their relationship.
Hungry Like a Wolfe
It’s her first time in battle, but Kim Wolfe is a Survivor — and has a healthy appetite for fun! When she’s not getting hands-on with her mentees, Amber and Trey, she’s making Rico laugh or arm-wrestling the other Kim.
Amber and Trey’s Crown Jewel
The buck doesn’t stop in Breckenridge for Ohio natives Amber and Trey. After experiencing a tough kitchen redo with no cabinet hardware, the pair was proud of what they produced under the time limit — especially since they gave the next-door bathroom the royal treatment with a bathroom makeover.
Hairspray Comes to Rico’s Rescue
Just because his team might be roughing it in their cabin doesn’t mean Rico can forgo modern conveniences. Stephen and Daniel get down and dirty during renovation, but their mentor knows the importance of being camera-ready.
Stephen and Daniel Take to the Hills
While they might be a long ways away from Massachusetts, Stephen and Daniel feel at home in their temporary digs: They won weeks one and two with their kitchen and main suite makeovers! To celebrate, the couple took advantage of the local landscape to re-create Julie Andrews’ iconic hilltop performance from The Sound of Music.
With the season fully underway, follow along on the teams’ journeys via social media and continue to tune in on Mondays at 9|8c and stream on Max. Stay tuned for season updates on HGTV’s digital platforms at HGTV.com and via @HGTV and #BattleOnTheMountain on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Instagram.
