The Interrogation is over at CBS All Access.
The ViacomCBS-backed streamer has canceled the drama starring Peter Sarsgaard, David Strathairn and Kodi Smit-McPhee after one season.
Picked up straight to series in late 2018, Anders Weidemann (30 Degrees in February) and John Mankiewicz (House of Cards, Bosch) co-created the nonlinear drama that was based on the conviction of a young man who was charged and convicted with brutally murdering his mother.
The series, from Fabrik Entertainment, was experimental in structure, with each episode allowing the viewer to become the detective. Viewers were able to watch installments of the nonlinear show in any order. (Season two, it’s worth noting, would have followed a different case.)

While CBS All Access does not release traditional viewership data, Interrogation launched in February with an average of 57 percent among critics and more favorable 88 percent with viewers. THR TV critic Inkoo Kang said in her review that Interrogation was “[a]n experimental mystery that’s more gimmick than innovation.”
“Anders Weidemann, John Mankiewicz and Fabrik Entertainment’s unique approach to exploring an unsolved true-crime in Interrogation allowed the audience to follow their own investigative path of evidence and suspecting characters throughout a 10-episode arc,” said Julie McNamara, exec vp and head of programming at CBS All Access. “They led an amazing team of writers, directors and cast, all of whom delivered a close-ended season that will continue to be available on CBS All Access for new viewers to discover and enjoy.”
Interrogation marks only the fourth scripted cancellation at CBS All Access, joining Tell Me a Story, One Dollar and Strange Angel in that category. CBS All Access is poised to be rebranded in 2021 as Paramount+ as parent company ViacomCBS broadens the streamer to feature more content from across its portfolio. Its scripted roster includes comedy No Activity (which is shifting from live-action to animation), The Good Fight, The Twilight Zone, Why Women Kill, the Star Trek franchise, The Stand, The Man Who Fell to Earth and more.
