Days after debuting at the New York Film Festival, The Weinstein Company is moving the theatrical release of My Week With Marilyn to the highly competitive Thanksgiving weekend.
Originally scheduled for release on November 4, Marilyn will now bow on Wednesday, November 23.

That puts the Michelle Williams picture in direct competition with other Thanksgiving eve releases The Muppets, Arthur Christmas, Hugo and Piranha 3DD.
The move can likely be attributed to the Williams’ warm NYFF reception taking on the iconic role.
STORY: ‘My Week With Marilyn’ Film Review
The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney praised Williams’ turn as Monroe, but didn’t find the film special on its own merit. “Beyond the not-inconsiderable enjoyment of watching Williams inhabit a pop-culture legend, My Week With Marilyn is superficial showbiz pageantry,” he writes.
My Week With Marylin isn’t so much a biopic as it is a window into a moment of Monroe’s life, following her week in the English countryside with film assistant Colin Clark while on location to film The Prince and the Showgirl.

The film also stars Eddie Redmayne as Clark, Kenneth Branagh as Monroe’s Showgirl co-star Sir Laurence Olivier and Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson.
