Ryan Serhant’s return to real estate reality TV is here at last. After starring in Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing New York from 2012 to 2021, the broker is back with his own Netflix series called Owning Manhattan. It follows Serhant as he builds his brokerage, leads a group of ambitious agents, and goes after the most exclusive luxury listings in New York City—meaning viewers are in for a bunch of enviable home tours with a heavy side of coworker drama.

Owning Manhattan is a fresh departure from the real estate reality scene on the West Coast that avid Selling Sunset, Selling the OC, and Buying Beverly Hills fans have been immersed in over the past few years. Whether you’ve already started watching or plan to dedicate the weekend to a marathon, find out everything you need to know about the series below.

What Is Owning Manhattan About?

Owning Manhattan centers on the high-stakes world of New York City real estate through Serhant’s namesake brokerage, which he started in 2020. Million Dollar Listing New York ended with Serhant moving into his company’s Soho office, and Owning Manhattan pulls the curtain back on that journey. “This is the only look I've ever given into my life as a CEO,” Serhant tells House Beautiful. “I'm still a broker. I'm still doing deals.”

Like Million Dollar Listing New York, Serhant “wanted to make sure there are deals on this show—real deals, real commissions, real people, real deal drama, real firings.”

Yes, Serhant actually fires more than one of his agents throughout the eight-episode season. Viewers can also expect to see tours of unbelievable apartments, including the penthouse in Central Park Tower—the tallest residential building in the world on Billionaires' Row—and the apartment Bad Bunny shelled out around $150,000 per month to rent.

“One of the fantastic things about being in New York City is that it's vertical and that anyone can come to the city and see it from the sidewalk up, see it from the concrete up,” Serhant says. “But one of the benefits of watching it on a television show on Netflix is like, ‘What does New York look like from the top down?’”

The series takes this approach in every aspect, especially as it zeros in on those top dollars in high-end real estate. But beyond seeing inside them, drone shots take viewers through “the canyons of New York,” Serhant says.

Who’s Part of the Cast?

Serhant describes the Owning Manhattan cast as “a slice of a New York City street” as it’s comprised of agents with various backgrounds, whereas the same can’t be said for Million Dollar Listing New York (which didn’t cast a woman until season nine). “I think our firm is maybe one of the most diverse in the city,” Serhant says. “We're a company that champions the people who are willing to do the work regardless of where you come from.”

Along with Serhant, the cast includes Chloe Tucker Caine, Tricia Lee, Jade Shenker, Jeffrey St.Arromand, Jessica Markowski, Jessica Taylor, Jordan Hurt, Jordan March, Nile Lundgren, Jonathan Frank Nørmølle, Genesis Suero, and Savannah Gowarty.

Netflix has yet to announce the fate of Owning Manhattan, but there’s no denying the finale sets the show up for a second season. “We have filmed some things that we weren't able to continue with by the time shooting ended,” Serhant says. “[They] didn't make sense for season one. I think [they] are primed for season two and are intense, to say the least.”

Serhant’s hope for a continuation of the series is that it eventually becomes the number-one reality TV show in the world—a feat similar to his mission to make SERHANT. the number-one brokerage in the world. “I've done this for a long time now and I do like telling stories,” Serhant says. “I think that the life that we lead is pretty unique over here on this little island that we live on.”
