Everything Coming to Netflix in August 2024
Look, there’s no way around this: August is a slow month for TV, and Netflix isn’t any different. Splashy fall TV is right around the corner, but August seems best designed to catch up on some of the best TV of the year so far that you may have missed.
It’s not a total wasteland, however: “Emily in Paris” returns this month for Season 4 Part 1. The internet loves to make fun of it, but the dreamed is truly one of the best brain-dead shows to watch when it’s too hot to do much of anything else. Lily Collins wears the most amazing outfits! There’s lots of kissing! Why do you think you’re better than it?! Much like other recent Netflix hits such as “Bridgerton,” “Emily in Paris” Season 4 will be divided into two parts, with Part 1 dropping August 15 and Part 2 debuting a month later.
Top pick: “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder“
The book by Holly Jackson was a YA smash when it debuted in 2019 and ultimately became a series, so it’s no real surprise that the story is getting a TV adaptation, starring “Wednesday’s” Emma Myers as Pip Fitz-Amobi, a UK teenager who attempts to solve an infamous five-year-old murder in her town.
From the book description: “Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. Five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town. But she can’t shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?
“Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn’t want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.”
The dark mystery, directed by Dolly Wells (“Good Posture”), has all the trappings that suggest it could be Netflix’s next buzzy breakout hit. See for yourself when the show premieres in full on August 1, with six 45-minute episodes.
