IDF strike southern Lebanon following Hezbollah rocket attacks on Israel

After 12 hours of quiet, Hezbollah launched a barrage on northern Israel, hitting various towns in the North, the IDF announced on Monday, adding it had responded to the barrage by targeting Hezbollah's infrastructure.

Fighter jets hit areas near the towns of Maroun al-Ras, Ayta ash Shab, and Houla in southern Lebanon, targeting military buildings and infrastructure.

No casualties were reported from the Hezbollah strikes earlier in the day.

Iran's president-elect reaffirms countries anti-Israel stance

"The Islamic Republic has always supported the resistance of the people of the region against the illegitimate Zionist regime," Pezeshkian said in a message to Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah.

Israeli troops operate in Gaza City UNRWA headquarters

The IDF noted that in the past, troops had operated in the area and had arrested and killed many Hamas terrorists. Forces had also demolished an underground route which passed under the facility.

IDF troops of the 99th Division operated in the Gaza City UNRWA headquarters, among other locations in the area, the military said on Monday. 

Detention rooms in the area

The joint operation with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) began during the night, following intelligence information regarding the use of the area by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the existence of terror infrastructure in the area, among which were detention and investigation rooms.

The IDF noted that in the past, troops had operated in the area and had arrested and killed many Hamas terrorists. Forces had also demolished an underground route that passed under the facility. 

The military also said that from the outset of the operation, it had alerted civilians regarding the operation in the area and would open an exit route to enable the evacuation of uninvolved civilians.

Israel’s war on Hamas and the destruction that ensued in the Gaza Strip following nine months of fighting may have impacted Hamas's decision to drop last week its hostage deal negotiation demand that Israel ends the war, sources in the Middle East and the US told Associated Press on Monday. 

The report also revealed, via a Middle Eastern official, the content of messages penned by Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, which called on the group’s Qatar leaders to accept US President Joe Biden’s outline for a hostage deal. 

According to AP, the messages describe the difficult conditions in Gaza and the severe blow struck to Hamas's forces.
