That VP Choice

In yesterday’s New Roundup, I noted this:

…which upon reflection was flippant, and rather harsh.

In fact, I think (as I write this) that it was a really interesting choice.

Here’s the thing:  what Trump needs as a Vice-President is not a typical politician — he had that with Pence last time round, and what a waste of time he turned out to be.  Rather, the next VP — and for all intents and purposes his political heir — needs to be someone who will continue Trump’s agenda and cement his legacy.

Trump is an Olde Phartte, after all, and while I fervently hope that he outlives his next term, there’s nothing wrong with having a much younger man to succeed him.

“But… a novelist?”  I know, I know, but J.D. isn’t just that:  in addition to having come up through poverty, he’s also USMC, a Yale law grad (before Yale became the cesspit it is today), and a U.S. Senator.

And actually, I like the fact that he’s also a writer, because what that shows is imagination… and after what we’ve been through for the past eight years, imagination is precisely what this country, and just as importantly what the Stupid Party sorely needs.

And let me remind you:  when the Czech Republic emerged from the foul shackles of East-Bloc Communism, their first president was Václav Havel — a playwright — and by almost any measure he was extremely successful in guiding his country out of the mire during his dozen-odd years as president.

I might be proved wrong in all this, but I don’t think I will be.  What I am sure of is that J.D. Vance is a tough guy as well as a writer, and that toughness and imagination is going to stand him in good stead as he stands up to the horrible ghouls of the Left.

And kudos to Donald Trump for thinking in that direction.  Get ‘er done, guys.

  1. You don’t have to scratch very deep to find out all you need to know on Vance. I’m not impressed, not by a long shot. Trump seems to have not learned from his 4 years at the helm.

  2. I could not disagree with ghostsniper more vehemently. I believe Vance indicates that the old GOP party of Bushes, Cheneys, McConnells, et al, is dead. Had he picked Rubio, that would have indicated the old neo-cons were still in charge. Nope, he drove a stake through the heart of the old GOP which is what it sorely needed.

The only pick I might have preferred would have been Ramaswamy. He strikes me as like Melei in Argentina, willing to take a bazooka and flamethrower to the swamp. But Vance is my guy after him. I don’t even know if Ramaswamy was born in the U.S. but I hope he gets a cabinet position.

And I want Tucker Carlson for Press Secretary, if you don’t get the job, Kim. I can just see him now, “That’s an enormously stupid question, not worthy of an answer, NEXT!”

    1. Ramaswamy is second generation and was born in Cincinnati in 1985. Vances wife is also 2nd generation. I’m sure that Vivek is in line for some top Cabinet post. ( AG or Treasury ? )

Vance is a good choice in that as a First term Senator he still has the fire to get the things on his list done and has not yet built up the list of ” Favors Owed” that a typical VP Canidate from the Senate carries. Or the corruption ( Menendez ).

….. And I’d like to see Tucker say something along the lines of ( If there is no question asked within the 1st 10 seconds of your editorial I’m moveing on to the next actual question.)

  3. and don’t forget good old Ronaldus Maximus Reagan, an actor.

Of course the left wants you to think that he must be a horrible person because Hitler was an artist.

In the end, I’d say anyone who’s not a lawyer or a career politician has a big plus next to their name.

  4. I couldn’t pick Vance out of a lineup. KDT shouldn’t be too hard on himself for his initial knee-jerk reaction; we all have them. Now that Vance is in the spotlight, we’ll learn more about him than we ever wanted to.

I see someone beat me to the punch: we had a B-list actor in the big chair once upon a time. He seemed to do okay, as I recall.

  5. Trump Supporters: I’m not sure what to think of JD Vance….
Liz Cheney (and every other RINO): JD Vance sucks…
Trump Supporters: He sounds good to me!

    1. Only one question: Where does he stand on the Second Amendment? Once you pin him down on that, you can predict everything else.

  6. I’m not exactly excited about Vance but I’m far from appalled. Former Marine, that’s a plus. Not a lawyer or career politician, plus and plus. strong on 2A rights, Big plus.

The Veep is the highest paid do nothing position in the country. Just look at Kackle-A. She was given assignments and she never showed up to do them. Occasionally the VEEP gets bumped to pres like LBJ, Ford, Daddy Bush and now Pedo Joe. On second thought maybe that happens more often than not in our post WW2 era. If that’s the case then Vance is young enough to break the old man cycle.

    1. Actually, he is a lawyer, as is his wife. He’s also a entrepreneur in tech (venture capitalist) who worked under Peter Theil.

He’s clean and articulate and if that was enough for BHO, then that’s enough for me. I don’t expect him to settle for the same type of cardboard cut-out jobs Kamala has(n’t) done. You put that guy in charge of the border/immigration and I reckon the border gets unfucked rikki-tik.

I would be happy if he just becomes the Chief Ball Breaker, with General Flynn in charge of the FBI/DOJ as Head of Payback is a Bitch and Her Stripper Name is Flynn.

It’s all about unity and healing. I want a unified posse of Special Counsels (numbering in the low 4 digits), and nothing encourages healing faster than the disinfectant of sunlight and some long prison terms.

  7. I think he’s a fine choice. What did you want? A white-shoe republican lizard? A stronk black woman?

Far as his background, I’ll take growing up poor white in the land of forgotten men any day. He worked his way up the way a ton of poor white guys I’ve known had – by enlisting, then taking advantage of the college plans and scholarships.

BTW the white shoe guys like Romney hate him. All I need to know.

  8. Also, consider this: If he becomes president, he’ll be the first president since Benjamin Harrison to have a beard.

Well, Obama had a beard, but, well… you know what I mean.

  9. Trump picked a veteran for VP. Someone who understands how the chain of command works, and how to punish insubordination, something Trump had difficulty with in his first term.

  10. Trump picked him because Vance is has been kissing Trump’s rear amd for the last 2.5 years and no other reason. Suffice to say that I am not a fan.

  11. I fear that Vance is one of those that instinctively reach for a government solution to every problem. But there are very few people in politics that don’t.
