After being laid off at the beginning of the year, I found it very difficult to stay connected and actively engage with my network. Being laid off, regardless of the round or reason, can be a very humbling experience. I knew my network was my best resource for finding a new job, but I was reluctant to let anyone know. I had to push myself to stay active and connected. Ultimately, it was this active networking that helped me overcome the difficult period and led me to my current role, which feels like the perfect fit.

Let them know you’re there with insightful comments or asking questions to further develop the conversation for the audience reading. +Take courses from free resources like LinkedIn Learning, HubSpot Academy, Udemy, and the plethora of resources you’ll find from your Linkies engaging and posting. +Learn about tools like Sales Navigator to build your network. +Connect with industry leaders who talk, educating and building bridges. +Be positive. Stay Active being a good human with your words. Others will notice and you never know which doors, windows, or sunroofs will open next. 😉

The KEY here is to stay ACTIVE and building your PERSONAL BRAND, here's a simple framework to follow to STAY ACTIVE: - Don't CONNECT to the WORLD, have a niche group and follow / connect with them - Pick a posting cycle that works for you, in LinkedIn it is recommended to post at least 3 times a week - Take control of your CAREER and do your HOMEWORK, read books or attend workshops - Share how you FEEL about your JOURNEY whenever you get emotionally triggered

Very important here to be proactive and not just apply for a load of jobs and be 'reactive' to who gets in touch. Find those jobs that you know you can add value in and reach out to the recruiter or hiring manager directly

What I mean by that is adding folks on LinkedIn without including a note on why you're reaching out, sending your resume off to folks that can't actually help you, or posting content without taking the time to really put thought behind it. These actions may feel helpful in the short term as you're "doing something", but ultimately, they can be harmful to your long term odds of success. Instead of spamming, take time to create thoughtful connections, content, and only reach out with your resume to folks who are actually hiring for positions that suit your skill set and experience. While you may not make as many connections, quality over quantity is everything here.

I have found writing on my subject matter knowledge even just sharing on Linkedin, is very helpful. It reminds me that I have a lot of knowledge on UI/UX over the course of 15 years. I'm not letting layoffs, or ageism get in my way.
