1. Understand why : dig deep to understand why there is a requirement change, what benefits it will have over existing/ running offer.
2. Stakeholder meeting : Invite all stakeholders and conduct a joint meeting. Adopt a collaborative approach in this meeting.
3. If scope change is accepted by the stakeholders, calculate cost , time, risk and effort analysis. Get written sign off from everyone on the same.

I believe the beauty of innovation starts from conflicts because it indicates the team is going to build something new. As project manager, I think conflicts due to scope changes are very common challenges. But with the right approach and mindset, it can be managed effectively. As PM, I ensure that the project scope is well communicated to all stakeholders and well documented. Again here the game changer is Clear and Effective Communication from PM to his team, because if he is able to convey to the team why this scope changes, how much it will impact on timelines, resources and what are its benefits for our project success. Then the team definitely welcomes the changes. But here PM bond, trust and understanding with team will be key.

Based on my PM experience in India and Gulf Countries, I recommend to
1. Identify the type. For example, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Proposal projects undergo scope changes. Proactively sensitize stakeholders.
2. Look for concerns that can flare up and result in a scope change in the future.
3. List and grade the concerns into 3 categories, namely Low Risk, Medium Risk, and High Risk
4. Categorize the Scope changes into positive and negative.
5. Involve the stakeholders and Discipline Leads while finding out ways and means to eliminate or mitigate such risks
6. Update the list progressively to eliminate or mitigate the risks
7. Estimate resources for risks that cannot be eliminated and make a claim for Change orders
