What is the best way for a Mechanical Engineer to present their experience in an interview?

Define each one clearly and do not elaborate too much on one, balance is key, and be prepared for questions on how and why since many interviewers will dig deeper. Again, if you do not know, it's better to be honest than to fabricate a solution.

When interviewing, I would highlight both my technical skills and my ability to articulate complex concepts. Speak clearly about your hands-on experience with materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and other basic disciplines; present real-world examples of how you've used these skills to improve mechanical systems and equipment. Highlight your project management and team leadership positions, as well as how you worked effectively with multi-disciplinary groups to solve difficulties. Interpersonal skills are very important. Demonstrate how you develop trust through open communication and maintain humility while pushing the limits of innovation. It is critical to convey this well-rounded skill set with honesty and knowledge.

Portfolios are essential for those just starting off or with little experience. It is always important to make sure you have approval to share the work you have done. If you interned or worked for a company and signed an NDA, you surely would not screenshot IP and disclose details to another company or a competitor. Showing too much or disclosing secret info will give the interviewer a negative point of view that you may do the same to them if hired. Often, it's better to show generic work or things that are on the market and can be purchased and reverse-engineered; share details, but always remember to set limits.

Always remember that interviewers can vary by personality; it's always a good time to ask yourself, do I want to work here? Can I work with this person or under this person? Perception always changes after you get a job, and the pitch doesn't always match the delivery. Read cues from other interviewers and the workplace: -Are they enthusiastic? -How is the culture? -Ask if this is a new role or due to attrition. -Search LinkedIn for former and past employees and see how long they have been with the company. -Is there a high turnover rate? -If you have access to or see the work environment, how does it look, and what is the atmosphere?
