Knowledge base is the key. Let everyone in the organization to well aware the vision and the business plan. Focus on costs (Material, System, Utility and waste management). Influence people to more concerns about the waste. It should be always focus to REDUCE rather than thinking of ways to either RECYCLE or REUSE and a hidden loss will always be a hidden profit.

First off, every problem can be traced back to operator error; the solution is to try and make an SOP, that takes the operator's judgement out of the equation. Make the SOP flow chart easy and free flowing taking judgement out of the equation; if this, do that. Experienced operators will come to understand the options by rote, and inexperienced operators will come to understand the options by exercising and following the flow chart time after time. It's incumbent on the supervisor or lead engineer to ask operator questions about why they were given the choices by the flow chart so they come to understand the chemistry and physics of why those actions were taken.

Empower employees by giving them autonomy and decision-making authority within their areas of expertise. This fosters a sense of ownership and accountability. Encourage collaboration across different departments or functions to promote knowledge sharing and innovation. Establish a culture of continuous improvement where employees are encouraged to identify areas for enhancement and contribute ideas for optimization.

Benchmark your processes, projects, and overall plant performance. Then continuously monitor progress and feedback lessons learned into your workflows and process. Ask, did we get the benefits we expected from our project? Why, or why not?

Yes by cross evaluations of workflows, better areas of improvement could be identified, if possible the audit should be done by someone else that is not the team leader.

I remember just recently few of us were taken from the Olefin plant and were taken to the power plant to learn about Heat recovery and steam generation (HRSG). It was a very intense training that lasted for a whole week. I only used to know about the use of Ultra high pressure team generated from the furnace to drive the compressor motors. But I didn't know that steam from the turbine can also be used to drive another turbine. Training and learning remain the key to plant operations and optimization.

Make sure the team is working on the same frequency, with a clear objective in mind aligning with organisational goals. I would say, bilateral communication is the key along with relevant training programs and performance audits/reviews.

I am strongly agree with this, But also we need to track performance chart through out the training course to analyse which area need to focus or improve for every individuals. Cross-train employees in different areas of plant engineering to enhance their ability to adapt and problem-solving. Try to replace traditional training methods by implementing immersive learning platforms like VR, AR by creating real scenarios.

Good communication among team members remains the key to a successful project accomplishment. It ensures all team members are on the same page with the progress of the project.

I have found well founded teams start with one simple tenet; leave ego/titles at the door. Many times when rankings are allowed into the room; open, frank and tenuous discussions get muted. If you remove the normal filters your team can release much more potential. I am pleasantly surprised to find that I routinely the moron in the room.

With the shortage of experienced technical skills in industry, its critical to utilise the resources available. I was a Director in one of the leading front end engineering consultancies in Aberdeen and was approached by a major operator in offshore West Africa for a Feasibility study for greenfield development that was prestigious and, as always, time constrained. The project required consideration of options of an FPSO design vs FPU and Platforms. I managed to collaborate with a marine company and with a Structural company that provided excellent input into design of platforms, constructability aspects and transportation of structures in West Africa. We were awarded the substantial Pre-FEED study for the subject development.
