What are the steps to develop a global leadership style?

Do a SWOT analysis of yourself and identify what are your areas of strength and weaknesses. Know what things drive you to do more and go beyond. Identify things that you feel passionate about and create your brand statement. A brand statement is the one that defines your identity, people should be able to understand your personality, working style by reading your brand statement.

In one of our workshops we defined these points: Emotional Intelligence: Understand your emotional responses and how they impact your decision-making and relationships. Emotional intelligence is key to effective leadership. Leadership Style: Identify your leadership style. Are you more autocratic, democratic, transformational, or laissez-faire? Understanding your style can help you leverage your strengths and address your weaknesses. Feedback: Seek feedback from others. This can provide valuable insights into how you are perceived and areas where you can improve. Continuous Learning: Commit to continuous learning and development. This includes staying updated on industry trends, improving your skills, and expanding your knowledge.

While some colleagues may be busy and need to go out of their way to show you things, I would always advise having your screenshot button ready and keeping a paper and pencil nearby. Timely learning is key!

When they share their stories and how they dealt with tough situations, you can go back and put yourself in their shoes and write down how you would deal with the situation if you were there. Compare it with their responses to see which would have been a better approach. This helps to understand the situation from multiple angles and helps us think differently.

Do storytelling when asked to share few tips etc. people will often remember a story more than just plain explanations

Assume positive intent. In a global team, especially one still in the storming/forming stage of development, risk of misunderstanding is high. You can reduce the risk of conflict by trusting your team and assuming that their intentions are good, even if the way they are expressing it rubs you the wrong way. Ask clarifying questions, share if you feel uncomfortable, and gradually develop a common language for your team.

My belief on global leadership style are three things. “I care, I help & you can trust me” “I care” - show people I care “I help” - I am there to help “People trust me” - people should see this in action.
