I started my career as an administrative professional, after a pivot from another industry. What I did was try to see what cross functional skills I had that would translate into the office, and turns out I had several. I would suggest working with agencies to see where they can place you, sometimes doing a contract lets you get a good feel for office work to see if you would like it or not. You aren’t in a long-term commitment it also allows you the ability to pick up on new skills for your next role if you decide that you would like to stay in the administrative field.

Just begin! Be open-minded and willing to take on any task. Be compassionate and have a heart for serving others. Being an EA requires leadership skills but also knowing when to follow versus lead. Take courses in Google Suite and MS Word.

I was a temp at a company for twelve months and was then offered a permanent position at an affiliated company for twelve years.
