Your team member lacks motivation. How can you inspire them without being too harsh?

Ask them WHY they lack motivation first! "I've noticed a change in your enthusiasm and energy over the past couple of days. Is everything okay with you?" Toxic bosses will forget to ask what their team members are feeling and THAT is what leads to a demotivated workforce!

There are a few ways you can approach the person. Firstly, try to show you are understanding and empathetic by asking if he is not motivated because of so and so reasons. For example "Hey Joy, I see you had been quite tired during work. Is your insomnia coming back again?" These shows you actually remember and understand the person's problems. It tells the person you care for him or her. Moreover, if the reason he or she gave you is not really valid, do not merely state how it affects the person in a bad way. You should also highlight how it affects others.

I believe that great leaders will inspire greatness in others but motivation . . . that’s an inside job and on the employee.

First of all, I don't think we should EVER be harsh when dealing with our team members. That would be a VERY bad start. We have to have empathy and if they are willing to talk, you must be willing to listen. No, we may not be "best buddies" but YES, we can always LISTEN. Lending an ear to a potentially hurting person could offer a world of help. Maybe they just need to feel heard. Burn out is very big today. When we share with others that we also feel the same way at times, it allows them to not feel alone. Let's always remember we are dealing with a person filled with many emotions. They may not even recognize their own behavior. Be gentle and always lead in a loving way. Otherwise, why should they even care to listen?

Establishing clear, achievable goals can significantly boost motivation. Work with your team member to set specific objectives and outline the steps to reach them. Clear goals provide direction and purpose, making it easier for them to stay focused and motivated while feeling supported rather than pressured.

The motivation matter alot in Business and the best things to inspire and motivate people will be by supporting them to get results. Whenever they do some mistakes always make sure to support and correct instead of being rude. No matter how good the company is but if you can’t support people it’s gonna start falling.

A true leader always empowers the team to go beyond their limit (I don't mean working overtime), fight for what they believe and trust. Imagine the team treats the business as its own life and believe the value they could create and of course is willing to fight for and also stand for it. Empowering is playing a pivotal role because the team should be able to make the decision and of course also bear the responsibility for it, no matter it is a good and bad one. At the end, the team will learn and grow from it. The leader (eventually the business) will finally benefit from team as well.

Often when people feel dissatisfied with work, it might be due to 'no' appreciation or lack of motivation. As a human, the need for appreciation is there is every step of life, whether personal or professional. Recognising the efforts put in by the employee or the extra mile he/she goes for the company should always be respected and rewarded. A little appreciation for the amount of effort put in by the employees goes a long way.

When someone is low whatever work they do seems to them as below par, tell them take short steps, ask them to accomplish small goals. Once they get confidence back give them more priority tasks and yes whenever they accomplish things well, give them a pat on back and keep acknowledging what improvements they can do

I would say crack a joke ! Tell them to take it lightly on a day :) Plan a weekend team party Ask them , How are they doin' ? GENUINELY Involve them in projects in which you have not till date ... Let them know they are an Asset

I used to involve my staff members in rewriting school Mission and Vision, have their photographs and names prominently displayed so they feel valued and respected. I also used to let them take turns to lead and assign jobs to others so they feel appreciated.

Deixe claro que não se trata de algo estanque, isolado de um processo, mas sim conectado a inputs e outputs. Apresente o propósito do cargo e/ou função; - Entenda e conecte valores e objetivos pessoais aos profissionais/organizacionais. Quando há essa sinergia, o processo motivacional fica muito mais fácil.

I don't understand why motivating your team is "harsh" at all—get to know people. Lead with empathy. Understand what makes them tick. When you care and connect, everyone will feel motivated.
