one thing i have found very effective in identifying and correcting inventory discrepancies is by regular inventory auditing this enables one to capture the discrepancies at the earliest opportunity possible. Inventory auditing includes inspection, observation, confirmation, recalculation, performance, analytical analysis of inventory during any stage of operations. This audits should be applicable in all inventories but particular attention might be put on inventory class A or A and B depending on the specific needs that is to be addressed by the commodity managers or close attention can be put on high-value items and consumables that are frequently used, as these are more prone to discrepancies.
