For most marketing you will want to track ROAS, or Return on Ad Spend. This will tell you how cost effective your ads are and is measured as the return of all sales attributed to marketing over the cost of all ads. However, at the business level you need to track ROI, or Return on Investment. This includes things like man hour costs, production costs, subscription costs, and more. A high ROAS is good, but a 2x ROAS is not going to cut it unless your costs are VERY low.

Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of your campaigns. Lowering customer acquisition costs while maintaining or increasing revenue is a key indicator of efficiency.

When considering the efficiency of any campaign, always consider what marketing efforts support it. A retargeting campaign for everyone that visits your web page may look very cost efficient, but it may be benefiting from paid search or organic traffic built through your social media manager's efforts. Don't end an awareness campaign just because it doesn't make money directly.
